Band booster news The Perquimans County Band Boosters will be selling raffle tickets for a Country Ham. Tickets will be ?old by the Band Booster members for ti.oo. The drawing will be held during half time at this weeks foot ball game. All proceeds will go to the Perqui mans County High School Band. Please help us promote this fund raising event! Waterfowl weekend scheduled Nags Head? The Ninth Annual North Carolina Waterfowl Weekend will be held Oct. 9-11 at the Armada Inn in Nags Head with approxi mately 40 participants in the juried show. The show will feature exhibits, a decoy painting contest, an auction and the sale of waterfowl arts and photography. It opens on Friday, Oct. 9 from 12 noon to 7:30 p.m. Saturday hours are from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with an auction of items donated by the artisans at 7 p.m. On Sunday the show begins at 11 a.m. and closes at 4 p.m. Tickets are $1 at the door with chil dren under 12 free. The Outer Banks Woman's Club is sponsoring the show that formerly was sponsored by the Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce. Clubmemb ers are quilting a wildfowl quilt and selling tickets to help offset expenses of the show. All proceeds will be used for community service projects. "The club is excited about sponsor ing its newest club project," said president Julia Haywood. "We have 13 years of successful experience in sponsoring craft shows and we're pleased to add the annual waterfowl weekend as a project." "The show closed out quickly with some of the area's most talented art ists, carvers and artisans," Haywood said. "They are coming from as far away as California, Maryland, and Delaware." Races washed out Rain forced cancellation of another race at Virginia Raceway this past weekend. There are no other words to tell you about racing action at our ra ceway other than it has been spectac ular. We have had great racing put on by some of the finest drivers. Vir ginia Raceway is the place to be Sat urday night, each week brings more exciting races, better than the week before. Come join us this Saturday night. We will have a SO lap Late Model, 30 Lap Super Street, and a 20 lap Pure Street and Mini Mites. Gates open at 5 p.m. and racing at 8:00. Bring the whole family and come to Virginia Raceway this Saturday Night for a fine evening of excitement. Virginia Raceway is located 9 miles North of Saluda, on Highway 17. Virginia Raceway's Annual Fall Classic is coming up, November 6-7 8th, with an Enduro Race. Watch for further information. Schlorships benefit students Area college students are benefit ing from Wachovia Bank and Trust Company shcolarships for technical students in the state's community college system. The $500 scholarships were re cently awarded to College of The Al bemarle students Sharon Spence and Nancy Hendee. Spence, an Associate Degree Nursing student from Eliza beth City, has a 3.56 grade point aver age and is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa honor fraternity. Hendee, an Eden ton resident, has a 3.97 grade point average in Business Adminis tration Technology. She presently selves as treasurer of the OOA.Stu rfmt Senate and is also a member of PM Theta Kappa. Wachovia technical scholarships are awarded annually to second-year students based on financial need, scholastic promise and performance during their first year of training.
