JOSEPH ALLEN WINSLOW
Hertford? Joseph Alien Wins low,
87, of Route 2, Box 138, Hertford, died
Thursday, October 1, 1987 in Albe
marle Hospital.
A native of Wilmington, Del., he
was the son of the late Allen J. and
Minnie Lee Smith Winslow and the
husband of Mrs. Atlessa "Lessie" W.
Winslow. He was a retired farmer
and a member of Bagley Swamp
Wesleyan Church.
Besides his wife, survivors include
a daughter, Mrs. Graham (Lelia
Lee) Senter of Salisbury, Md. ; a son,
Marshall A. Winslow of Virginia
Beach, Va.; four sisters, Mrs. Ruth
Rountree and Mrs. Virginia White,
both of Rt. 1, Belvidere, Miss Clara
Winslow and Miss Minnie Lee
Winslow, both of Rt. 2, Hertford; two
brothers, Dennis Winslow of Rt. 2,
Hertford and Rev. Clarence Winslow
of Bra den too, Fla. ; 5 grandchildren
and l great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Satur
day at 2:00 p.m. in the Bagley Swamp
Wesley an Church with Rev. Samuel
Swinney and Rev. Daniel LeRoy offi
ciating. Burial was in Bagley Swamp
Cemetery with Swindell Funeral
Home in charge of arrangements.
Pastors seminar scheduled by
hospital on organ procurement
Chowan Hospital will sponsor a
seminar on The Pastor's Role in Or
gan Procurement" on Monday, Octo
ber 19, from 10:00 a.m. until 12 noon.
Open for hospital chaplains and in
terested area ministers, the seminar
will be led by The Rev. Lewis Lint,
senior chaplain for Pitt County Me
morial Hospital in Greenville and
Rick Walters of the Carolina Organ
Procurement Agency in Greenville.
The purpose is to educate and in
form clergy persons from all faiths
as to the need for organ donations,
and the minister's role in the emo
tional dynamics involving the fami
iies of the donors and the recipients.

Atlanta? Georgia Tech held its
156th commencement exercise on
Friday, September 4, 1987. Linwood
Anthony Moore of Winfall received a
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical En
gineering.
Chowan county fair to open
The 40th Annual CHOWAN
COUNTY FAIR will be held October
12th thru 17th at the American Legion
Post 40 Fairgrounds on U.S. Hwy. 27
S. Bus., Edenton. American Legion
Post 40 has been the continuous spon
sor of this outstanding community
service program since its beginning
in 1947.
The Chowan County Fair Associa
tion, in recognition of four (4) de
cades of support by the citizens of the
area, has worked diligently to ensure
that the 1967 Fair will be a remem
berable event. The entertainment
budget has been substantially in
creased to provide quality free enter
tainment and thrills for all Fair
goers.
The star stage attraction will be
Victoria Hallman, entering her 5th
season starring on "Hee Haw". Vic
toria will be accompanied by Nash
ville, TN songwriter and performer,
Kent Westberry and The Memory
Makers. They will perform two
shows on Thursday, October 15th and
Friday, October 16th.
Thrills and chills will be the reac
tion of all who watch The Sensational
Jordans and their GLOBE OF
DEATH daredevil motorcycling act.
The Jordans, based out of Las Vegas,
Nevada are third generation circus
performers. John and Patsy Jordan
are former members of the Great
Wallendas high wire act.
More quality entertainment will be
provided by area bands and organi
zations. Other attractions include
Bertie-Martin Band (Wed.), South
ern Fury (Tues.), Rocky Hock Re
bels (Sat.), 4-H Regional Talent Con
test (Tues., Thurs., & Fri.), Senior
Citizens Recognition (Thurs.) and
the Queen of the Fair Beauty Pag
eant (Sat.).
For those young at heart, there will
be a new and larger midway provid
ing rides, games and thrills of all
types. The midway is supplied by
Eastern Seaboard Shows.
A county fair is never complete
without exhibits and displays that
demonstrate the talents of all ages of
our area citizens. There are 26 divi
sions with over 1,200 classes of exhib
its offering over $6,500 in premiums
that can be won. Exhibit entry will be
Saturday, October 10th and Sunday,
October 11th, from 2:004:00 p.m.
each day. All residents of the Albe
marle-Roanoke-Chowan area are eli
gible to enter their talents for all to
see. Anyone requiring exhibit infor
mation should contact the Chowan

mans County game warden Jack Staley. Above the students are seen as the complete one of the
duck blinds. Officer Staley has recently distributed the blinds at various location in the river.
