There will be something for 1 ; everyone when the 12th annual j •Indian Summer Festival opens ; bright and early Saturday morn ing. ;J The day will get off to a run ning start with the 8 a.m. 1 Mile Run Run/2 Mile Run Walk for Health sponsored by Chowan Hospital. Registration begins at ! 7:30 on Ainsley Street With healthy hearts and ~ empty stomachs, the next local festival stop is Missing Mill Park, where food booths ami open at 10 a.m. A variety of foods, in cluding festival- favorites hot dogs, hamburgers, seafood, bar becue. baked goodies, and much, much more, will fill the air with ananas to leave the mouth wa tering. After a stop to fuel up for fun. festival-goers can shop to their hearts’ content at the 40 craft booths, offering a wide vari ety of hand-craftecf items. An tique displays Will fill the tennis courts. Children will have a ball with old-fashioned sack races, tug o war, football throw, fossil dig, the Edenton Optimist Train Rides, Uncle Jessie the magician, Eden ton Baptist Church clowns, the Perquimans Jaycees dunking booth and more. This year’s festi val will even sport a pie-in-the face events Hey, adults may just want to get, in pn this fun, too! Entertainment will be jump started with the sounds of the Out In The Cold band at 10 a.m. under the park pavillion. The Riverwind Aerobic Team makes an 11 o’clock appearance and Uncle Jessie, the magician will wow ldds at 11:30. Out in the Cold performs again at noon, followed by a fes tival tradition, the Flatland dog gers. A watermelon seed spitting contest should be a fun 2:30 event. The focus will move to the riverfront at 3 p.m., when the U.S . Coast Guard Rescue team - will present a rescue demonstra : tion. (File photo by Susan Harris) at 4:30, and The Acoustic Sounds of Brad Payne will take the stage at 5 p.m. The hot sounds of August will fill the park for the street dance slated for 7 p.m. The band is billed as the area's top variety musical group, and will provide plenty of dancing tunes. The park isn’t the only place for Saturday fun. The Blbliopath Bookshop & Bindery will bring The Dixie Coast Bluegrass Boys to downtown from 1-5 p.m. Shoppers can browse through die sidewalk sales while enjoying the music. The Artists Four Art Show and Sale, which opened on Sept. 13, will continue throughout me festival at the Perquimans County Library. Professional sat to compliment any decor is avail able, and your purchase helps the library, too. How can you get from one event to the other without losing that valuable parking place? No problem. This year the festival will feature shuttle buses. For 25 cents, festival patrons can cruise from the park to the downtown, area to the high school. Food, entertainment, games, local art, antiques, health screenings, a car show - what more could anyone ask for dur ing the 12th annual Indian Sum mer Festival.
