Hunt young Citi zen Awards ceremony at Wake Farest University last month. - Jodi Lynn Abbate received a $5,000 scholarship to be used at afty college In the state. She was one of three scholarship recipi ents among the 100 youth named James B. Hunt Young Cftjzens. Two other Young Cltl aens received scholarships, one of $2,000 and one of $3,000. —The program Is administered 1$ Wake Forest on behalf of the governor, and honors outstand ing young citizens of the state who are active in their schools. qhUrches and communities, and who are dedicated to community service and leadership. Hunt Young Citizens Award ceremonies last month. The award was presented by Gov. Hunt for the needy and building wooden chairs for the Snug Har bor clubhouse. She is a former high school class officer, SADD Club officer and band member. She presently works part-time. Jodi is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Gustafson of Hertford and Anthony Abbate of Jamestown, N.Y. Her grand mother is Beatrice Kreckel of Hertford. Jodi plans to further her ed ucation at Meredith College in Raleigh. The book is designed and written to bring positive influ ence into children’s lives. It illus trates the beauty of their world and the people who are in their world, especially themselves. School counselors attend conference GREENSBORO - Gray Dixon, I&ncy Alexander, and David Weitz, Perquimans County coun selors, last month joined more than 1,300 school counseling ptofessionals from across the jrt^te at the North Carolina ■School Counselor Association 'JKanual conference held Nov. 15 TT in Greensboro. The confer ence was co-sponsored by the N.C. Department of Public In struction. They attended skill-building workshops and grade level inter est meetings which covered a range of topics, including family dynamics, nulticultural aware ness, career guidance, devel opmental program planning, and legal and ethical issues. The conference theme was “Councelors: Lighting the Way to the Future.” Featured speakers included Jack Canfield. Dr. Fred Krieg, State Superintendent Bob Etheridge and Ms. Arden Mar tenz.
