Nutrition site menus
Menu for the Perquimans County Nutrition Site for the
Elderly for July 31-Aug. 4 is as follows:
Monday - Baked chicken breast pattie w/gravy, scalloped pota
toes, steamed cabbage, roll, cherry jello w/fruit, milk.
Tuesday - Great Northern beans w/ham, marinated tomatoes,
turnip greens, roll, apple crisp, mUk.
Wednesday - Lasagna, garden peas, corn, bread, fruit cocktail,
milk.
Thursday - Barbecue chicken, green beans, beets, roll, oatmeal
cookie, milk.
Friday - Cheeseburger/bun, honey baked beans, coleslaw,
peaches in light syrup, milk.
Class reunion
The Perquimans High School class of 1985 will hold a reunion
on Sept. 23 at the Holiday Inn in Elizabeth City. Members of the
class of 1984 and 1986 are also invited to attend. For information,

Senior Center
The Perquimans County Senior Center has a trip planned to
go to the Old Dominion Opry in Williamsburg, Va, on Friday,
Sept. 15. We will depart the Center at 3:30 p.m. and stop for din
ner at the Chesapeake Square Mall. Then on to the Opry for the
program at 8 p.m. Return home about 12:30 a.m. Cost per person
is $28, which includes the Opry and your transportation.
Deadline to sign up and pay is August 11. For more information

Volunteers are needed for the Perquimans Nutrition Site’s
home-delivered progrcim. Call 426-8309 for information.
Family ResearchSociety
Family Resecirch Society will meet Sunday, Aug. 6 at Grace
Methodist Church, Hwy. 17 N., Elizabeth City. Doors open at
2:30, meeting a 3:00 The speaker will be Melinda Lukie with the

Youth program
The NEED Foundation in Camden will conduct a Survival
Skills for Youth Program beginning in late August. Youth ages
14-21 are encouraged to attend this 10-session program. Spaces
are limited. An orientation session will be held on Aug. 15 at 9
a.m. at the Watermark Building in Camden. CaU Susan Bourne,

sure and ask about the early August woodworking class.

The bride is the daughter of
Donald and Nancy Manning of
Chesapeake, Va. The groom is
the son of Lyonel and Peggy
Byrum of Hertford.
The bride was given in mar
riage by her father.
The bride’s mother served
as matron of honor.
Bridesmaids were Kerry
Barone of Irving, Texas; Toni
M. Belisle of Norfolk, Va.; Tina
Moore of Richmond, Va.; and
Michelle Umphlett of
Chesapeake, Va. Sara Byrum
of Hertford, daughter of the
groom, was young bridesmaid.

Obituaries
Alice F. Combs
...church member
Alice Ferrell Combs, 84, of
Hertford died Thursday, July
20, 1995, in Chowan Hospital
in Edenton. A native of
Perquimans County, she was
the widow of Charles Ruben
Combs and daughter of the
late Joseph Wilson/Ferrell
and Mrs. Roxie Anna Lowe.
She was a member of the Oak
Grove United Methodist
Church.
Surviving are two sons,
Francis Combs and Freddie
Combs of Raleigh; two sisters,
Mr. Addie Mae F. White of
Hertford and Mrs. Mattie F.
Sloop of Morresville; and
three grand-children.
Funeral services were held
Saturday, July 22, at 11 a.m. in
the chapel of the Swindell
Funeral Home in Hertford by
the Rev. Gene Boyce and the
Rev. Bobby Jordan. Burial fol
lowed in the Oak Grove
United Methodist Church
Cemetery.
Delmas A. Cornelius
...retired seaman
Delmas A. Cornelius, 80, of
7 Kelsey Drive, died
Wednesday, July 19, 1995, in
his home.
Graveside services were
held Friday at 11 a.m. in the
Copeland Family Cemetery
with the Rev. Bill Patterson
officiating. Miller Funeral
Home was in charge of
arrangements.
Mr. Cornelius was a mem
ber of Edenton Bible Holiness
Church.
He was the husband of
Ruth Barefield Cornelius.
Other survivors include
three daughters, Barbara
Copeland of Tyner, Kathy
Raper of Winfall and Sandi
Miller of Hertford; four sons,
Gary Cornelius, Charles
Cornelius, Bruce Cornelius
and Richard Cornelius, all of
Salisbury, M.; 19 grandchiL
dren and five great-grandchil
dren. He was preceded in
death by a daughter Shirley
White.
John H. Wise
...Navy veteran
John Haakon Wise, 69, of
Evergreen Drive, Hertford
died Tuesday, July 18, 1995 in
the Skilled Nursing Facility of
Chowan Hospital in Edenton.
A native of El Paso, Texas,
he was a Navy veteran of
World War II and the Korean
Conflict.
Surviving are two brothers,
Raymond Wilbur Wise of
Clearwater, FI. and W.F.
Ogden of Hertford.
Graveside services were
held Thursday at 10 a.m. in
Riverview Burial Park in
Lancaster, Penn. In lieu of
flowers, memorial donations
may be made to the American
Cancer Society.
Swindell Funeral Home of
Hertford was in charge of
local arrangements.
