Students serve as Senate pages
Chesson-White
Mr. and Mrs. Luther G. Chesson of
Hertford announce the engagement of their
daughter, Karen Lynne Chesson of Herllord,
to Raleigh Leroy White Jr. of Hobbsville, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Tulley Langley of Hertford
and Mr. and Mrs. Raleigh Leroy White Sr. of
Hobbsville.
Miss Chesson is a graduate of Perquimans
County High School. She is attending COA.
Mr. White is a graduate of Gates County
High School. He is employed at Union Camp,
Franklin, Va.
The wedding is planned for 3 p.m. on Aug.
19 at Hertford Baptist Church.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend.

Winslow of Edenton announce
the engagement of their daugh
ter, Dana Frances Winslow, to
Mr. William Lewis Norvell III
son of Mr. and Mrs. William
Lewis Norvell Jr. of Edenton.
The bride graduated from
John A. Holmes High School
in 1990 and graduated cum
laude from North Carolina
State University with a degree
in Chemical Engineering in
1995. She is presently
employed at Radian
Corporation in Research
Triangle Park.
The groom graduated from
John A. Holmes High School
in 1984 and attended
Jacksonville University in
Jacksonville, Florida. He
served in the United States
Navy fo-r 10 years and is

presently employed with the
Raleigh Police Department.
The wedding is set for Sept..
16 at Edenton Baptist Church
at 4 p.m.
EFNEP graduation held
Graduation exercises were
held recently at the
Perquimans Learning Center
for 11 participants successfully
completing the “Eating Right
is Basic 2” series.
Earline White, Nutrition
Program Assistant, gave a
review of the program.
Comments were given by
each of the participants as to
how the program had helped
them to better plan menus, be
a wiser shopper, to use Food
Pyramid for recommended
daily servings and understand
why children eat like they do.
Those receiving certificates

Holley, Julie Johnson, Sonja
Jordan, Darlene Norfleet, EUic
Sharpe, Vanessa Taylor, Tara
Warren, Jackie Warren,
Juanita White and Tequila

week of July 10th with 22
other high school students as
pages for the N.C. Senate.
For decades the North
Carolina Senate has invited
outstanding high school stu
dents to assist in the general
functioning of the state legis
lature in Raleigh. Pages pro
vide a wide array of services
ranging from managing
offices to attending daily
Senate sessions and assisting
Senators.
Both Hammer and Downar
are rising seniors at
Perquimans High School.
They were sponsored by
Senate President Pro Tempore
Marc Basnight. Hammer is
the daughter of David and
Frances Hammer. Downar’s
parents are Craig and
Suzanne Downar.
Stephanie Hammer (left) and Jackie Downar (right) served as
pages in the State Senate the week of July 10. While in Raleigh,
they spoke with Marc Basnight of Dare County, Senate
President Pro Tempore, and Rep. Bill Culpepper of Chowan
County.
