Grady E. Brinn
...Ruritan
Grady Eugene Brinn, age 77,
of Hertford died Monday,
August 28, 1995 at Chowan
Hospital. A native of Hyde
County, he was a member of
the Pleasant Grove Church of
Christ. He was a veteran, hav
ing served in the U.S. Navy
during World War II. He was
the son of the late Clarence
Brinn Sr. and the late Bertha
Sawyer Brinn.
Survivors include his wife,
Arimetta Milton Brinn of
Hertford; a son, Grady Eugene
Brinn II of Hertford; a step
son, Cecil Petty of Norfolk,
Va.; two sisters, Grace
Tibbetts of Chesapeake, Va.
and Josephine Gibbs of
Englehard; three brothers,
Joseph Lee Brinn of Detroit,
Mich., Clarence Brinn Jr. of
Manteo and James Ljmn Brinn
of Jacksonville, Fla.; and one
step grandchild.
Graveside services were
held on Thursday, Aug. 31 at 2
p.m. in the New Hollywood
Cemetery, Elizabeth City, with
Phil Emmert, minister.
Twiford’s Memorial Chapel,
Elizabeth City was in charge of
arrangements.

Colon Brothers Sr., 71, of 504
Copley Drive, died Wednesday
evening, August 30, 1995, in
Albemarle Hospital.
A native of Norfolk, he was
the son of the late Walter
Irving Brothers Sr. and Elmira
Munden Brothers.
Survivors include his wife,
Ann AHigood Brothers; two
daughters, Deborah B. Caton
of Kil-l Devil Hills and
Elizabeth Dianne Brothers of
Virginia Beach; a son, James
Colon Brothers Jr. of Kill
Devil Hills; three sisters,
Margaret B. Smith of
Elizabeth City, Hellon B. Wood
and Edith B. Sykes, both of
Virginia Beach; a brother, W.
Irving Brothers Jr. of
Chesapeake, Va., and a grand
daughter, Kimberly Elizabeth
Caton of KUl DevU HiUs.
Memorial services were
held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the
Maestas Funeral Home
Chapel, Virginia Beach, with
Rev. David Daniels officiating.
Swindell Funeral Home of
Hertford was in charge of
arrangements.

P. Edward Hunter
...Army veteran
Percy Edward Hunter Sr.,
58, of Rt. 2, Box 46-4A,
Hertford, died Friday evening,
September 1,1995 in his home.
A native of Perquimans
County, he was the son of the
late Abbott S. Hunter and
Lillie Harrell Hunter. Hunter
was a mechanic with NCDOT.
He was a member of Anderson
United Methodist Church, the
Beech Springs/Bear Swamp
Ruritan Club, and the Bear
Swamp Hunt Club. He was an
Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife,
Anne Hollowell Hunter; a
daughter, Melissa Anne
Ballance of Wilson; a son,
Percy Edward Hunter Jr. of
Wanchise; three sisters,
Elizabeth Roberson and Marie
Leary, both of Hertford and
Lillie Ambrose of Elizabeth
City; four brothers, Marvin
Hunter, Ray Hunter, Pete
Hunter and Jimmy Hunter, all
of Hertford.
Funeral services were held
Sunday at 3 p.m. in Anderson
United Methodist Church with
Rev. Terry Williams officiat
ing. Burial followed in Cedar
Wood Cemetery with Swindell
Funeral Home in charge of
arrangements.
Mary Vernon W. Sadler

Mary Vernon Ward Sadler,
age 61, of Route 4, Box 790,
Hertford, died Monday,
August 28, 1995 in Albemarle
Hospital.
She was a native of
Perquimans County and
attended the New Hope United
Methodist Church. She was
the daughter of the late
Vernon Leroy and Mamie
Morris Ward.
Survivors include two
daughters, Debra Lee Phillips
of Hilton Head, S.C. and Tina
Marie Mason of Shawboro;
four sons, Anthony Wayne
Phillips of Columbia, S.C.,
Vernon Keith Phillips of
Nashville, Tenn., George
Arthur Sadler and Robert
William Sadler both of
Elizabeth City. One sister
Elizabeth Chappell of
Belvidere, and one brother
Haywood Ward of Moyock,
and 10 grandchildren.
Memorial graveside service
were held on Sept. 2, at 2 p.m.
at New Hope United Methodist
Church Cemetery by Rev.
Wayne Sawyer and Rev.
Roland Cooper.

U.S. AF. Combat Command Heritage of America Jazz Ensembie
Free concert set
Perquimans County’s observance of the 50th anniver
sary of World War II will culminate with a concert on
Tuesday, Sept. 19.The U.S. Air Force Air Combat
Command Heritage of American Jazz Ensemble of Langley
Air Force Base, Virginia will present music from the
World War II era at Perquimans High School. The pro
gram begins at 7:30 p.m. Attendees should be seated by
7:15. There is no charge to attend the performance; howev
er, only 400 seats are available.
The program is sponsored by the Perquimans County
World War II Commemoration Committee and the N.C.
Chapter, Veterans of Underage Military Service.
