Democratic rally
The Perquimans County Democratic Executive Committee is
sponsoring a rally on Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. at the Perquimans County
High School cafeteria. State Chairman Wayne McDevitt will be
the keynote speaker. Tickets are $10. For tickets, contact

Interagency Council
The Perquimans County Interagency Council will meet on
Thursday, Oct. 12 at 7:30 a.m. at the Perquimans County Schools
Administrative Building.
Golf tournament
The Elizabeth City State University Athletic Department is
sponsoring Ye Old Viking Golf Classic on Friday, Oct. 13 at Pine
Lakes Golf & Country Club. There will be a 1 p.m. shotgun start.
Prizes wUl be awarded to the first, second and third place teams,
and for longest drive and closest to the pin. Entry fee is $200 per
four-person team. Refreshments and lunch will be provided at
the Pine Lakes Club House at 11:30 a.m. Entry deadline is Oct. 6.

AARP bake, yard sale
The Perquimans Chapter $4118 of AARP wiU hold a bake and
yard sale on Oct. 14 at the Senior Center from 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Our Town
The Downtown Merchants Association invites traditional
crafters to participate in the Our Town celebration planned for
Saturday, Oct. 21. The event wUl feature home, business and his
toric tours; entertainment; and craft booths and demonstrations.
Artisans interested in having a booth during the Our Town cele
bration should contact Suzanne Haste at Hertford Hardware or
Judy Christensen at Darden Department Store.
Belvidere Fire Queen drive
The Belvidere-Chappell HUl Volunteer Fire Department is
now accepting applications for its annual Fire Queen drive.
Applicants must live within the fire department district and
must be between the ages of 13 and 21 and unmarried. The drive
wUl go through Dec. 1. The winner is decided by the amount of
money coUected to benefit the fire department. The winner wUl
be honored by being presented in the Christmas parade. For

ECSU Alumni banquet
The Perquimans County Alumni Chapter of ECSU wiU spon
sor a Fellowship Banquet at the ARPDC Building on Church
Street Extended, Oct. 20 at 6 p.m. The featured speaker will be
Dr. C lifton Davis, Vice Chancelor for Development and
Planning at ECSU. Contributions are $10. For information, call

There will be a call meeting of the Perquimans Alumni
Chapter on Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Senior Citizens
Center. Important business, including final plans for the ban
quet, will be discussed.
Hospice training
The Alb emarle Hospice will offer a 15-hour volunteer train
ing course Oct. 18,20,25,27 and Nov. 1,1-4 p.m., at the Albemarle
Home Care in Elizabeth City. Training is free. Hospice is a pro
gram designed to help terminally ill persons stay and die in

Elderly for Oct. 9-13 is as follows:
Monday - Roast turkey/stuffing/gravy, succotash, cranberry
juice, dinner roll, pumpkin pie square, milk.
Tuesday - Navy beans with ham and potato chunks, fresh
orange, turnip greens, combread, sugar cookie, mUk.
Wednesday - Lasagne, green peas, tossed salad/dressing,
french bread, orange jeUo, milk.
Thursday - Smoked sausage, sweet potato patties, green
beans, white rice, wheat bread, jello with pineapple, milk
Friday - Chicken pastry, marinated carrots, spinach, dinner
roll, oatmeal cookies, milk.
School meal menus
The Perquimans County School System announces the school
menus for Oct. 9-13, which is National School Lunch Week, as
follows:
Oct. 9: Breakfast - Super donut, cereal, bread, fruit or juice,
milk. Lunch - Taco salad or hamburger, french fries, corn, fruit
cup, lettuce/tomato, milk.
Oct. 10: Breakfast - Sausage biscuit, cereal, bread, fruit or
juice, milk. Lunch - Body buddy sub (turkey, ham, cheese, let
tuce, tomato), caution sign carrot sticks, road block apple, blue
print mUk.
Oct. 11: Breakfast - Scrambled eggs, toast, cereal, fruit or
juice, mUk. Lunch - Hard hat cheese pizza, tool belt tossed salad,
safety vest sliced peaches, construction worker milk
Oct. 12: Breakfast - cinnamon bun, cereal, bread, fruit or
juice, mUk. Lunch - Foreman baked chicken/jack hammer rice,
road grader whole wheat roll, steam roUer broccoli, dump truck
fruit, cement mixer milk.
Oct. 13: Breakfast - Coffeecake, cereal, bread, fruit or juice,
milk. Lunch - Chicken nuggets or hot dog/roll, potato wedges,
winter mix, green beans, cole slaw, fruit cup, hot roll, milk.

from Oct. 9-13 is as follows:
Oct. 10: prenatal a.m.
Oct. 11: child health all day.
Oct. 13: general p.m.; pills/problems all day.

Michael S. Walsh, son of Eva
K. Walsh of Hertford, has
departed for a six-month over
seas deployment aboard the
destroyer USS Fife as part of
the USS Independence Battle
Group.
Walsh is one of the 382
sailors aboard the destoyer.
