Happenings
School meal menu
The Perquimans County School System announces the *■
school menus for April 8-12 as follows:
Monday - No school.
Tuesday - No school.
Wednesday - Breakfast - Steak biscuit, cereal, toast, fruit or
juice, milk. Lunch - Chicken patty or hot dog/bun, scalloped
potatoes, green peas, applesticks, baked beans, milk.
Thursday - Breakfast - Scrambled eggs, cereal, toast, fruit or
juice, milk. Lunch - Pizza or rib sandwich, winter mix, fries,
corn nuggets, fresh apple, milk.
Friday - Breakfast - Breakfast pizza, cereal, bread, fruit or
juice, milk. Lunch - Soft taco or fish nuggets, fries, lettuce &
tomato, green beans, fruit cup, milk.
❖ Health clinic
The clinic schedule for the Perquimans Health Department
for April 8-12 is as follows:
April 9 - Prenatal clinic will be held in the morning.
April 10 - Child health clinic and WIC will be held all day.
April 12 - General clinic will be held in the afternoon,
pills/problems will be held all day.
❖ Nutrition site menus
Menu for the Perquimans County Nutrition Site for the
Elderly for April 8-12 is as follows:
Monday - Turkey sandwich, boiled potatoes, squash, bread,
cookies, milk.
Tuesday - Pinto beans w/ham, tomato and onion salad,
orange-grapefruit juice, cookies, milk.
Wednesday - Beef lasagna, garden salad, corn, Texas toast,
lime jello w/fruit, milk.
Thursday - Barbecue pork sandwich, tater-tots, orange juice,
baked apple, milk.
Friday - Oven baked chicken, vegetable medley, strawberries,
roll, baked potato, angel food cake, milk.
❖ Recreation news
The Perquimans County Recreation Department is taking
sign ups for the following sports: T-ball, $10, ages 5-8, until
April 5; Babe Ruth Girls Softball, $20, ages 9-12 and 13-15, until
April 5; and Junior Babe Ruth Baseball, $30, ages 13-15, until
April 14. Age cut-off for all sports is Aug. 1. All participants
must sign up at the recreation department by the stated dead
line.
Spaghetti dinner
Cubscout Pack 150 of Hertford will have a spaghetti and
meatball dinner on Saturday, April 13 at the Hertford
Methodist Church on Dobbs Street from 11:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m.
Tickets are $5 per j)late.
The money raised will be used for Summer Resident Camp
in Surry, Virginia.
❖ Senior news
The Perquimans County Senior Center has a trip planned
for Saturday, April 13 to go to the Pavilion to see “My Fair
Lady.” We will depart the center at 2 p.m. and travel by bus to
Lynnhaven Mall to shop and eat dinner on your own before
traveling on to the 8 p.m. performance. Cost per person is $23
and deadline to sign up and pay is April.
❖ Democratic convention
Delegates to the Democratic Party County Convention for
Perquimans County will meet on Saturday, April 13 at 11 a.m.
at the county courthouse to elect Congressional District
Convention Delegates, State Convention Delegates, and two
members to each of the following District Executive
Committees: Judicial, State Senatorial, and State House of
Representatives. The guest speaker will be The Honorable
Vernon James, retired N.C. Representative. For more infor
mation contact: Lillian A. Holman, County Chair at 426-8302.
Painting class
The Perquimans County Senior Center has a painting class
scheduled for Monday, April 8, from 1-5 p.m. at the Senior
Center. Doris Grubbs, will be teaching the Bob Ross tech
niques of painting. Everything will be supplied by the
instructor for a cost of $30 per person. Open to the first 10 to
sign up. For more information call 426-5404.
❖ Golf tournament
The second Perquimans Residents Golf Tournament is set
for Thursday, April 11 at noon at Sound Golf Links,
Albemarle Plantation. The $25 per person fee must be paid at
the Recreation Department by April 8 at 5 p.m.
Interagency Council
The Perquimans County Interagency Council wUl meet on
Thursday, April 11 at 7:30 a.m. at the Perquimans County
Schools Administrative Building, 411 Edenton Road Street.
❖ Barbecue dinner
There will be a pork barbecue dinner on Saturday, April
20, 4-7 p.m. at Jimmy Hunter’s Shop. The dinner is sponsored
by the P.C.H.S. Lady Pirates basketball team to help defray
the cost of team basketball camp. Tickets are $5 each, take out
only, and are available from all team members.

ried at.6 p.m. on Saturday,
Feb. 24 at the First Baptist
Church, Plymouth with Dr.
Terry Jones officiating.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence L. Dail
of Plymouth. She is the grand
daughter of Elizabeth Hurdle
of Belvidere, and the late
Harlan Hurdle of Belvidere
and Clarence hnd Evelyn Dail
of Hertford.
The groom is the son of Dr.
and Mrs. James F. O’Leary of
Edenton and Patrick Melim of
California. He is the grandson
of the late Harry and Dolly
Anderson of Edenton.
The bride, given in mar
riage by her parents and
escorted by her father, wore a
formal gown of silk and re
embroidered alencon lace. The
dress had an off-the-shoulder
scalloped neckline which
extended to a fitted drop waist
covered in decorated alencon
lace with pearls and sequins.
The long illusion sleeves
extended to bridal points and
were adorned with decorated
appliques. The full sheath
skirt was accented with deco
rated lace and scalloped on the
edges. The bride wore a head-
piece of silk, pearls and
sequins. She carried a cascade
bouquet of white calla lilies
and mixed white flowers.
Mistresses of ceremonies
were the brides’ aunts, Wendy
Peede of Belvidere and
Frankie Proctor of Roanoke,
Va.
Matron of honor was sister-
in-law of the bride, Micki S.
Dail of Plymouth.
Bridesmaids were cousins
of the bride, Michelle Peede of
Greenville and Melody Peede
of Belvidere. The attendants
wore dresses of black sheath
crepe and matching crepe jack
ets with rhinestone buttons.
They carried bouquets of
mixed white flowers.
Honorary bridesmaids were
Tracey Proctor of Maryland,
cousin of the bride, and Elaine
Davis of Plymouth. They wore
black sheath dresses and each
carried a single red rose.
Best man was Jeff Powell of
Greenville. Groomsmen were
Tony Dail of Plymouth, broth
er of the bride; Matt Novello of
Little Creek, Va.,; and Sam
Martinez of Little Creek, Va.
The flower girl was Ashley
Simpson of Roper. She wore an
off-white tea-length dress with
Dena Jo White, Kenneth E. Waters II
Military notes
Cram
A.B. Jeremy D. Cram com
pleted basic training at
Lackland Air Force Base,
Texas on March 29.
Cram has been assigned to
Shepard Air Force Base, Texas
to attend crew chief school for
six weeks.
The 1994 graduate of
Perquimans County High
School is the son of Paul and
Lin Hood of Hertford.
Newman
Navy Seaman Erica J.
Newman, daughter of Eric and
Linda Newman of Winfall, is
in the Western Pacific Ocean
near the island of Taiwan
aboard the aircraft carrier
USS Nimitz.
Newman is one of more
than 5,000 Sailors and Marines
aboard the carrier providing a
naval presence in internation
al waters. Newman’s ship is
monitoring the military exer
cises and missile firings that
the People’s Republic of China
has been conducting in the
waters around Taiwan.
While spending 80 of the
first 90 days at sea, Newman
also has visited Hong Kong,
Singapore and the United
Arab Emirates.

The bride’s parents hosted a
reception at the Shrine Club
immediately following the cer
emony.
The bride is a 1986 graduate
of Lawrence Academy and a
1990 graduate of East Carolina
University. She is employed
with the state of North
Carolina as a community ser
vice coordinator in Plymouth.
The groom is a 1985 gradu
ate of Lawrence Academy and
a 1990 graduate of East
Carolina University. He is a
U.S. Navy Seal with Seal Team
Four stationed in Little Creek,
Va.
White-Waters
to wed
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Towe
White Jr. of Hertford
announce the engagement and
forthcoming marriage of their
daughter, Dena Jo White of
Hertford, to Kenneth E.
Waters II of Raleigh, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Kenneth E. Waters of
Hertford.
Miss White is a graduate of
Perquimans County High
School and is currently a
junior at Meredith College in
Raleigh. She is a North
Carolina Teaching Fellow pur
suing a degree in history and
licensure in secondary educa
tion.
Mr. Waters is a graduate of
Perquimans County High
School and N.C. State
University. He is employed as
a product engineer at Alcatel
Network Systems of Raleigh.
He is also pursuing a masters
degree in engineering from
N.C. State.
The wedding is planned for
June 1 at 3:30 p.m. at Hertford
United Methodist Church.
Friends and relatives are
invited to attend.
