Page 2 The Perquimans Weekly Community August 29,1996 Happenings ❖ School meal menus The Perquimans County School System announces the school menus for Sept. 2-6 as follows: Sept. 2 - Labor Day - no school. Sept. 3 - Breakfast - Cinnamon bun, cereal, toast, fruit or juice, milk. Lunch - Hot dog or hamburger/bun, potato wedges, winter mix, fruit cup, juice, milk. Sept. 4 - Breakfast - Cheese toast, cereal, bread, fruit or juice, mUk. Lunch - Spaghetti or steak nugget/roU, fries, lima beans, tossed salad, fresh fruit, milk. Sept. 5 - Breakfast - Scrambled eggs, cereal, toast, fruit or juice, milk. Lunch - Chicken pot pie or pork choppette/bun, rolls, sweet potatoes, greens okra, applesauce, milk. Sept. 6 - Breakfast - Sausage biscuit, cereal, bread, fruit or juice, milk. Lunch - Beef taco pie or fish nuggets/cornbread, potato rounds, peas, lettuce & tomato, fruit, milk. ❖ Nutrition site menus Menu for the Perquimans County Nutrition Site for the Elderly for Sept. 2-6 is as follows: Monday - Hamburger/bun, boiled potatoes, wax beans, rice krispies treat, milk. Tuesday - Roast turkey w/gravy, broccoli, orange-pineap ple juice, stuffing, roll, ambrosia fruit salad, milk. Wednesday - Smoked sausage, melon balls, steamed cab bage, potato salad, bread, strawberry jello/whipped topping, milk. Thursday - Chicken & dumplings, peas, carrots, roll, brownie, milk. Friday -Egg salad sandwich, vegetable soup, peaches, bread, graham crackers, milk. ❖ Health clinic schedule The clinic schedule for the Perquimans Health Department from Sept. 2-6 is as follows: Sept. 2 - Holiday - clinic closed. Sept. 3 - COLPO in the afternoon. Sept. 4 - Child health clinic in the morning. Sept. 5 - Immunizations and WIC clinics 5-7 p.m. Sept. 6 - WIC program all day, general health clinic in the afternoon. ❖Alumni meeting There will be a meeting of the Perquimans County Alumni Chapter of ECSU Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Senior Citizens Building on Grubb Street. ❖ Family Research Society Family Research Society will hold its regular monthly meeting on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 3 p.m. at the community room in the Virginia Dare House, 106 S. McMorrin St., Elizabeth City. Speaker will be Phil McMullen of Perquimans County; his subject, will be “The 5 Lost Colonies. For information, caU Steve Casper at 297-2347. ❖ Senior news The Perquimans County Senior Center has a trip planned to go hear The Albemarle Sounds in concert on Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Swain Auditorium in Edenton. Along with the Sounds will be two quartets, the Spotlight and the Showbiz. This is open to our county to persons age 55 and over. Your ticket must be purchased through the Senior Center. The van will be available to the first 13 to sign up but you may drive your own car. The ticket price is $5 and $1 to hold your seat on the van. Deadline is Friday, Sept. 6. For more information call 426-5404. On Tuesday, Sept. 24, we plan to travel to Swan Quarter and ride the ferry over to Ocracoke Island. After the two and a half hour ride over, we will eat lunch on the Island and then come home by way of Hatteras Ferry and up the Outer Banks. Cost per person is $25 which covers your ferry ride and bus fare. Deadline to sign up is Friday, Sept. 13. ❖ Yard sale The Open Door Thrift Store will hold a yard sale on Saturday, Aug. 31,8 a.m.-noon. The sale is being held at the Hertford location, which is behind the fire station. After the sale, the thrift store will move to the food pantry site on Hwy. 37 in Winfall. Please see more Happenings, page 3 O a 'fT' Programs scheduled at cooperative extension Discovering Art and Science With Children will be held on Sept 9 from 7-9 p.m. at the Perquimans County Cooperative Extension Center. The program will present a variety of “hands-on” science and art activities as children explore their world. Ways to encourage children’s creativi ty and the selection of safe art and science materials will be stressed. A Playground Equipment Safety program will be held on Oct. 5 from 8 a.m.-noon at the Perquimans Coimty Extension Center. The Rev. Stephen A. Young officiated. The bride is the daughter of Patricia Rouse of Oxon Hill, Md. and Earl Carey of Clinton, Md. She is the granddaughter of Rufus and Lenora Rouse of Hertford. The groom is the son of Rufus and Doerte Roberts of Ft. Washington Md. The bride was given in mar riage by her father. Maid of honor was Patricia Rouse, mother of the bride. Best man was Devlon Hughes of Ft. Washington Md. Mistress of ceremonies was Leslie Martin of Washington, D.C. Wedding music was provid ed by Anita TUlett of Hertford, aunt of the bride. Department of Motor Vehicles, presented a program on school bus safety and trans portation of students at the Woodmen of the World Lodge meeting last Thursday night. Sawyer told how adult school bus drivers were select ed and trained in safety and handling buses in the Albemarle Region that he cov ers for DMV. He stated that North Carolina school bus sys tem has one of the best safety records in the nation.
