Page 8 - The Perquimans Weekly, Hertford, N.C., Thursday, July 30, 1998 Boosters kick off new year The Perquimans County Athletic Boosters are kicking off a new year w'ith several projects in the works, accord ing to club president Edgar Roberson. The Boosters will meet for the coming year on the first Monday of each month, begin ning on Aug. 3, at 7:30 p.m. at Perquimans County High School. Roberson said football sea son tickets will be available beginning on Tuesday, Aug. 4. The tickets will cost $ each, and will allow admission into both varsity and junior varsity football games for the 1998 sea son. Tickets can be reserved by calling Roberson at 426-7719 or Judy Rucker at 426-7615. Booster members will gath er at the high school stadium on Saturday, Aug. 8 at 9 a.m.for the annual facilities clean-up day. Concessions stands and equipment will be cleaned and organized for the coming fall sports season, which begins with a three-way football scrimmage on Aug. 15 at 7 p.m. Sports program sales were set to begin this week, Roberson said. There will be no increase in ad prices for the 1998-99 program. Ads are $25, $50, $100 and $200. The biggest project being undertaken by the Boosters at present is installing lights at the Perquimans County High School softball field. Perquimans is the only school in the Northeastern Albemarle Conference without a lighted softball field. With the addi tion of the lights, games can be scheduled at night, which will Handle medical waste carefully for safe disposal Most medical waste gen erated in the home can be easily and safely managed by the caregiver. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) you can prevent injury, ill ness, and pollution by fol lowing some simple steps when you dispose of sharp objects and contaminated materials you use in taking care of someone in your home. Needles, syringes, lancets, and other sharp objects should be placed in a hard plastic or metal con tainer with a screw-on or tightly secured lid. Tape the lid if necessary to make sure it stays on. Do not use glass or clear plastic con tainers, and label the con tainer “do not recycle.” This container may then be disposed of in the household trash. Waste Matters Anne Blindt Albemarle Regional Solid Waste Authority The EPA also recom mends that soiled bandages, disposable sheets, and med ical gloves be placed in securely fastened plastic bags before you put them in the garbage can with your other household trash.Double bagging these items may be wise. Nursing facilities, clin ics, and hospitals are larger producers of medical wastes, and must dispose of their waste through special hazardous waste qompa- nies, but homes do not have the same restrictions. For more information call your local home health care providers or the Solid Waste Authority at 297-3300. In addition, light sponsors will receive a compli mentary $25 ad in the sports program. Donations of any size are being accepted for the project.
