One calendar with up to 4 listings is $5 each, additional listing is 50 cents. Proceeds will go towards the purchase of a new building. ❖ Board of Education meeting The date of the regularly scheduled Perquimans County Board of Education meeting has been changed for September. The Board will meet in regular session on Monday, Sept. 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Perquimans County Board of Education Building. ❖ Painting class at Senior Center The Senior Center is offering mixed media painting classes on Tuesdays, Oct. 6-Nov. 10, 1-4 p.m. Cost for the six-week class is $3. For information and registration, call 426-5404. ❖ AARP The Perquimans Chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons will meet Monday, Sept. 28 at the Perquimans County Senior Center in Hertford. The meeting will be held at 2 p.m. The Sassy Ole’ Senior Line Dance Team (SOS) from the Elizabeth City Pasquotank County Senior Center will give an exhibition of line dancing. They will perform to several differ ent types of music including country western, county waltz and Charleston. ❖ Health fair The Snug Harbor Property Association Civic League and Albemarle Hospital will sponsor a health fair on Saturday, Sept. 26, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Snug Harbor Clubhouse. Free screenings and information will be available. Included in the screenings will be sugar and cholesterol, blood pressure, breast cancer, skin cancer, legs and pul monary function., Pre-registration will be required for legs, breast cancer and skin cancer. Call Mable Williams at 426- 1043 to register. There will also be a kids pavilion with health information, teddy bear first aid, a skin cancer protection puppet show and give-aways. Sparky the fire dog and a Bethel Fire Department truck will be on site. Door prizes will be given every 15 minutes. ♦♦♦ Walk-a-thon Brian Center will participate in a walk-a-thon in conjunc tion with the Eastern North Carolina Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association on Oct. 3. The walk will begin at Brian Center at 11 a.m. and end at Missing Mill Park. Walkers and sponsors are needed. For information call Debbie Jones at 426-5391. ❖ Fellowship of Christian Athletes The Perquimans County High School Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Hertford United Methodist Church will host the first 5th Quarter after the Oct. 2 football game (10 p.m.-midnight) in the HUMC fellowship hall. The event is free and open to all PCHS students. The 5th Quarter will include music and a chat with evangelist Michael Frost. ♦♦♦ Waste oil recycling Perquimans County has expanded its write motor oil recy cling program. Do-it-yourselfers may place motor oU in the containers provided at the Center Hill Road and New Hope convenience sites. These containers will accept waste motor oil, transmission fluid, and diesel fuel only. ♦♦♦ Talent show Youth ages 9-19 residing in Northeastern North Carolina can register for the talent show to be held at the Chowan County Fair on Oct. 1, at 8 p.m. First prize if $50 and a trophy; second prize, $35; and third prize, $20. Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Howard Cooper Tammy Selene Taylor, Garry Allen Felton Cooper, Harris wed Amy Kay Harris of Hertford and Christopher Howard Cooper of Gatesville were mar ried on June 27,1998. The Rev. Darrell Davis officiated. The bride is the daughter of Lary and Deborah Harris of Hertford. The groom is the son of Melvin and Georgia Cooper of Gatesville. Given in marriage by her parents, the bride chose a gown of white satin under illu sion. The bodice featured a lace overlay, and a sweetheart neckline. The skirt fell into a chapel length train and was trimmed with lace cut-outs. Bridesmaids were Mary Jo Weeks of Virginia Beach, Va.; Susan Roberts of Hertford; Chrissy Lewis of Windsor, cousin of the bride; Jessica Burlamachi of Moyock, cousin of the bride; Kathryn Salisbury of Gates; and Kelly Harris, of Hertford sister of the bride. Best man was Melvin Cooper, father of the groom. Ushers were Rob Ballance of Elizabeth City; Kenny Nordstrom and Eric Colson both of New Hope; Roger Lowe of Corapeake; and Lory Harris III, of Hertford, brother of the bride. Mistress of ceremonies was Sheila Shelton of Virginia Beach, Va. Wedding music was provid ed by Terry Hardison and Carla Belch, both of Edenton. A reception was held follow ing the ceremony at the fellow ship hall of the church. The couple honeymooned in Richmond, Va. The bride is a graduate of Perquimans County High School. She is employed as Coordinator at R.P.S. The groom is a graduate of COA Adult High School. He is employed at Asplundh Tree Expert Co. Taylor, Felton to wed Mr. and Mrs. James William Britt of Hobbsville announce the engagement of their daughter, Tammy Selene Taylor of Hobbsville to Mr. Garry Allen Felton of Hertford, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clauda A.
