Menus for Perquimans County Schools for-Sept. 28-Oct. 2
are as follows:
Monday - Breakfast - Honey bun. Lunch - Pizza or sausage
dog, fries, corn, green beans, fruit, milk.
Tuesday - Breakfast - Sausage biscuit. Lunch - Chicken
nuggets or pork w/gravy over rice, fries, peas & carrots, win
ter mix, fruit, roll, milk.
Wednesday - Breakfast - Cinnamon raisin biscuit. Lunch -
Corn dog nuggets or ham & cheese sandwich, boiled potatoes,
cabbage, beets, baked apples, milk.
Thursday - Breakfast - Breakfast-on-a-strick. Lunch -
Spanish beef & rice or fish fillet sandwich, potato wedges,
lima beans, glazed carrots, applesticks, milk.
Friday - Breakfast - Coffeecake. Lunch - Turkey & cheese
sub or barbecue sandwich w/slaw, greens, okra, sweet pota
toes, applesauce, milk.

Lunch menus for the Nutrition Program for the Elderly at
the Perquimans County Senior Center for Sept. 28-Oct. 2 are:
Monday - Beef stew, juice, pimento cheese sandwich,

Tuesday - Baked ham, turnip greens, peaches, sweet potato
patties, bread, cookies, mUk.
Wednesday - Spaghetti w/meat sauce, tossed salad, corn,
bread, juice, milk.

Friday - Veal parmigiana, broccoli/cauliflower, mandarin

The Belvidere-Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department is
taking orders and listings for the 1999 Perquimans County
Birthday Calendar. Deadline to order is Thursday, Oct. 1 Call
Jennifer Layden at 297-2901, Carolyn R. Winslow at 297-2853
after 5 p.m. to order. One calendar with up to 4 listings is $5
each, additional listing is 50 cents. Proceeds will go towards
the purchase of a new building.
❖ Board of Education meeting
The date of the regularly scheduled Perquimans County
Board of Education meeting has been changed for September.
The Board will meet in regular session on Monday, Sept. 28 at
7:30 p.m. at the Perquimans County Board of Education
Building.
❖ Painting class at Senior Center
The Senior Center is offering mixed media painting classes
on Tuesdays, Oct. 6-Nov. 10, 1-4 p.m. Cost for the six-week
class is $3. For information and registration, call 426-5404.
❖ AARP
The Perquimans Chapter of the American Association of
Retired Persons will meet Monday, Sept. 28 at the
Perquimans County Senior Center in Hertford. The meeting
will be held at 2 p.m.
The Sassy Ole’ Senior Line Dance Team (SOS) from the
Elizabeth City Pasquotank County Senior Center will give an
exhibition of line dancing. They will perform to several differ
ent types of music including country western, county waltz
and Charleston.
❖ Health fair
The Snug Harbor Property Association Civic League and
Albemarle Hospital will sponsor a health fair on Saturday,
Sept. 26, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Snug Harbor Clubhouse.
Free screenings and information will be available.
Included in the screenings will be sugar and cholesterol,
blood pressure, breast cancer, skin cancer, legs and pul
monary function., Pre-registration will be required for legs,
breast cancer and skin cancer. Call Mable Williams at 426-
1043 to register.
There will also be a kids pavilion with health information,
teddy bear first aid, a skin cancer protection puppet show and
give-aways. Sparky the fire dog and a Bethel Fire Department
truck will be on site.
Door prizes will be given every 15 minutes.
♦♦♦ Walk-a-thon
Brian Center will participate in a walk-a-thon in conjunc
tion with the Eastern North Carolina Chapter of the
Alzheimer’s Association on Oct. 3. The walk will begin at
Brian Center at 11 a.m. and end at Missing Mill Park. Walkers
and sponsors are needed. For information call Debbie Jones
at 426-5391.
❖ Fellowship of Christian Athletes
The Perquimans County High School Fellowship of
Christian Athletes and Hertford United Methodist Church
will host the first 5th Quarter after the Oct. 2 football game (10
p.m.-midnight) in the HUMC fellowship hall. The event is free
and open to all PCHS students. The 5th Quarter will include
music and a chat with evangelist Michael Frost.
♦♦♦ Waste oil recycling
Perquimans County has expanded its write motor oil recy
cling program. Do-it-yourselfers may place motor oU in the
containers provided at the Center Hill Road and New Hope
convenience sites. These containers will accept waste motor
oil, transmission fluid, and diesel fuel only.
♦♦♦ Talent show
Youth ages 9-19 residing in Northeastern North Carolina
can register for the talent show to be held at the Chowan
County Fair on Oct. 1, at 8 p.m. First prize if $50 and a trophy;
second prize, $35; and third prize, $20. Application deadline is
Sept. 28. Call the Chowan County 4-H office for details, 482-
8431.

Melvin and Georgia Cooper of
Gatesville.
Given in marriage by her
parents, the bride chose a
gown of white satin under illu
sion. The bodice featured a
lace overlay, and a sweetheart
neckline. The skirt fell into a
chapel length train and was
trimmed with lace cut-outs.

NOTICE OF GENERAL ELECTION
A General Election will be held in Perquimans County on Tuesday,
November 3, 1998 to elect Federal, State and County Officers.
Voters who are already registered need not re-register. Residents of
the county who are not registered must register by October 9, 1998 to
be eligible to vote in the General Election.
Poll will open from 6:30 a.m.. until 7:30 p.m.
Any voter who will be out of the county the entire time the polls are
open on election day, or who will be unable to go to the polls because
of sickness or disabilities, may vote by absentee ballot. The voter
may apply for absentee ballot beginning October 2, 1998.
Applications must be made in person or by writing to the Perquimans
County Board of Elections, Post Office Box 336, Hertford, NC 27944.
Absentee applications will be issued through Tuesday, October 27,
1998.
The Board of Elections office is open Monday, Wednesday and
Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., if you need additional
