Happenings
Library Board meeting
The Pettigrew Regional Library , Board will meet
on Monday, Sept. 23 at the Tyrrell Coupty Library in
Columbia. The meeting is open to the public.
AARP meeting
The Perquimans Chapter of the American
Association of Retired Persons will meet Monday,
Sept. 29 at the Perquimans County Senior Center in
Hertford at 2 p.m.
Support groups to meet
The Albemarle Hospital Cardiac Support Group
will meet in the hospital’s Education Center on Sept.
17 at 7 p.m. The Compassionate Friends Support
Group will meet on Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. in the Education
Center.
“Breakfast With a Friend”
The second annual “Breakfast With a Friend” to
benefit the Greater Albemarle Area Chapter of the
American Red Cross will be held Sept. 28, at CPOA
' Quarters, Cardwell Street, Elizabeth City, 7-10:30 a.m.
The cost is $4 and the menu includes pancakes, eggs
and sausage with a beverage.
Workshop for parents offered
The Chowan/Gates/Perquimans Partnership for
Children is offering a workshop for parents of chil
dren from birth through age five on Thursday, Oct. 3,
from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Dillard’s Mill Road
Community Center (Old White Oak School) on 123
Dillard’s Mill Road in Tyner. The workshop, titled,
“Alien’ Behaviors-Who is the Alien?’ Me or My
Child?” will be led by the Partnership’s Early
Childhood Specialist, Debra Dawson, and will focus
on how a better understanding of children’s stages of
development can help parents cope with their chil
dren’s seemingly inappropriate behaviors. To regis
ter for the workshop, parents may call Debra Dawson
at the Partnership for Children in Tyner at 221-3030.
Jim “Catfish” Hunter ALS Walk
The Jim “Catfish” Hunter Walk to D’Feet ALS will
be held Saturday, Sept. 21 at 9 a.m. at Perquimans
County High School. All funds raised will go to the
Hunter ALS Foundation to fund research and patient
support. Those interested in walking should contact
Helen Hunter, 426-7998; Kim Hunter-Layne, 426-1559;
or Leah Harrell, 426-3043.
PTSA meeting scheduled
PTSA will meet Oct. 8 at 6 p.m. in the PCHS cafe
teria. Topics of discussion include safe schools and
low wealth county. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m.

Red Cross blood drive
There will be two American Red Cross blood dri
ves in Perquimans County in September: Sept. 19,
Albemarle Plantation, 2-6 p.m., and Sept. 23, New
Hope United Methodist Church, 3-7 p.m.
Community Technology training
Free computer training is scheduled at the
Community Technology Learning Center at
Perquimans County High School. Courses offered
are: Using Microsoft Word, Thursdays, 3-5 p.m. and
Using E-mail, Sept. 26, 3-5 p.m. To register, call 426-

School meal menus
All meals are served with Milk. Perquimans
County school lunch and breakfast menus for Sept.
23-27 are as follows: Monday- Breakfast-bagel Lunch-
chicken nuggets or pizza, corn, fries, peas, pears,
roll.; Tuesday- Breakfast- waffle sticks. Lunch-Taco
or hot dog, fries, baked beans, green beans, fruit.;
Wednesday- Breakfast-muffin. Lunch-turkey sub or
ham & cheese sandwich, fries, cabbage, beets, apple
sauce, roll.; Thursday- Breakfast-sausage biscuit.
Lunch-beef-a-roni or BBQ sandwich, potato wedges,
salad, lima beans, peaches, bread.; Friday- Breakfast-
pop tart. Lunch-fish nuggets or cheeseburger, fries,
broccoli, field peas, pineapple, hush puppies.

Menus for the nutrition site at the Perquimans
Senior Center for Sept. 23-27: Monday - Mild Philly
Sausage, green beans, orange/pineapple juice, scal
loped potatoes, dinner roll, granola bar. Tuesday -
Chicken salad, beets, applesauce, sliced bread, jello
w/ fruit. Wednesday - Vegetable beef soup, orange
juice, biscuit w/ cheese, low salt crackers, chocolate
chip cookie. Thursday - Lemon pepper chicken, suc
cotash, pears, rice pilaf, roll, chocolate pudding.
Friday - cheeseburger, coleslaw, sliced peaches,
baked beans, hamburger bun, fig newtons.
Health clinic schedule
The Perquimans County Health Department
announces its schedule for Sept. 24-27 as follows:
Tuesday- pediatrics all day, WIG all day. Prenatal in
the morning. Thursday-adult health in the morning.
Friday—general health in the afternoon, teen health
in the morning, pills & problems in the ^ternoon.
Regular government meetings
Elected governing bodies hold regular meetings
each month. The schedule for those meetings in
Perquimans County is as follows:
• Perquimans County Commissioners: first
Monday at 3 p.m.
• Hertford Town Council: regular meeting - second
Monday at 7:30 p.m.; work session - first Monday at 7
p.m. - Planning & Zoning Board of Adjustments - 3rd
Monday at 7 p.m.
• Winfall Town Council: Second Wednesday at 7
p.m.
• Perquimans County Beard of Education fourth
Monday at 7:30 p.m.The boards may also hold special
meetings as warranted.

Festival 2002. Festival-goers took to the streets to
