Community The Perquimans Weekly, October 12, 2005 3 Happenings Partnership meeting The Chowan/Gates/Perquimans partnership for Children will hold a regional meeting on Oct. 17 at 3:30 p.m. A tri-county local board meeting will follow at 5 p.m. for more nformation or to RSVP, call 221-3030 by Oct. 13. Trick-or-treat downtown Trick-or-treat with the downtown merchants wiU be on Oct. 31, 3-5 p.m. Turkey shoots The Belvidere-Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor turkey shoots on Oct. 15 and 22 and Nov. 12 and 19 at 7 p.m. at the fire station. There will be shoots for turkeys, hams and sausage for men, women and children. Concessions available. For information, can Lee at 331-3279. Christmas parade Memoris of Christmas is the theme for the annual Christmas parade scheduled for Dec. 3 at 2 p.m. Applications for the parade are available at the Chamber office. CaU 426-5657 for information. Pancake supper The WinfaU Fire Department wiU hold a pancake and sausage supper on Oct. 13, 5:30-8 p.m. All you can eat is $5. Tickets are available at WinfaU Town HaU. Rotary breakfast The Hertford Rotary Club wUl hold its annual pancake breakfast to fund scholarships on Oct. 22, 7-11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church Parish House. Tickets are $6 and can be purchased at Hertford Hardware, the Chamber or any Rotarian. Ruritan breakfast The Durant's Neck Ruritan Club wiU host a pancake breakfast on Saturday, Oct. 22,6-10 a.m. The cost is $4 for adults and $2 for children under 12. The menu includes pancakes, sausage, grits, orange juice, coffee and milk. You can eat in or take out. Rabies clinic There will be a rabies clinic at Missing Mill Park on Nov. 19, 2-4 p.m. Dog obedience training Classes in basic obedience wiU begin on Nov. 8 at 6:30 p.m. and run for seven consecutive Tuesdays at the Perquimans County Recreation Center. Classes are open to Perquimans and Chowan residents. The fee is $130 . CaU 426-6587 for information and to register. Holiday Flair The Perquimans Extension Service will present “Holiday Flair ... Suggestions for Managing Home and Family” on Oct. 20 and 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. at the Extension Center. The cost is $3 to cover a tasting party and handouts. RSVP to 426-7697 by Oct. 10. Farm Bureau meeting The Perquimans County Farm Bureau Annual Meeting wiU be held at 7 p.m. on Oct. 18 at the Extension Office. Julian Philpott Jr., NCFB secretary and general counsel, wiU be the guest speaker. Library fundraiser The 4th annual Silver Tea, a fundraiser for the Perquimans County Library, wiU be held on Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. The event will include music, door prizes, a silent auction, food and a fashion show. School meal menus Oct. 17-21: Monday: Breakfast: Super donut. Lunch: Pizza, chicken nuggets, french fries, California blend vegetables, corn, applesauce, biscuit. Tuesday: Breakfast: Breakfast-on-a-stick. Lunch: Meat loaf with gravy, rib sandwich, whipped potatoes, green peas, okra, pears. Wednesday: Breakfast: Sausage biscuit. Lunch: Taco, corn dog nuggets, french fries, pinto beans, green beans, peaches. Thursday: Breakfast: Pop tart. Lunch: Turkey ham and cheese sandwich, sausage dog, sweet potatoes, cabbage, beets, pineapple. Friday:'Breakfast: French toast sticks. Lunch: Chicken stir fry with rice, barbecue sandwich, french fries, onion rings, lima beans, cornbread, pineapple. All meals served with milk. Nutrition Site menu Oct. 17-221: Monday: Smoked sausage, lima beans, orange pineapple juice, rice, dinner roU, chocolate pud ding. Tuesday: Herbed baked chicken, coUards, fruit cocktail, parslied potatoes, dinner roll, red velvet cake. Wednesday: Spaghetti with meatbaUs, spinach, peaches, garlic bread, jeUo. Thursday: Baked turkey with gravy, green beans, pears, mashed potatoes, dinner roU, fruit cobbler. Friday: Chicken salad sandwich, garden salad, orange juice, peanut butter cookie. AU meals served with milk. Regular government meetings Elected governing bodies hold regular meetings each month. Celebrations fru > .. €|r- l:-. \ ^ Mr. and Mrs. William Craig Trueblood Truebiood, Cuthrell wed Jennifer Alise Moore, Charles Eduardo Layden Moore, Layden to wed Renia Anne Cuthrell and William Craig Trueblood, both of Hertford, were mar ried on Aug. 20 at 2 p.m. at Bagley Swamp Wesleyan Church with the Rev. James Spaugh officiating. The bride is the daugh ter of Glennett Spruill of Hertford and Pat Cuthrell of Elizabeth City and the step-daughter of Wesley Spruill. She is the grand daughter of the late C.D. and Renia Lamb and the great-granddaughter of Delia Meads. Her step- grandmother is Ruby Mince. The groom is the son of Tina and Tom Trueblood of Hertford and the grandson of the late George and Geneva Trueblood. Presented in marriage by her father, the bride chose a pearl satin gown designed by Mori Lee. The strapless gown was two- piece and a-line shaped. The sweetheart neckline of the bodice was trimmed in satin and featured embroi dered lace embellished with iridescent crystals and beadwork. The back of the bodice was accented by a lace-up, corset-style clo sure. The skirt was satin and flowed into an elabo rate lace train featuring the same embroidered lace and beadwork as the bodice. Her veil was pearl with a satin ribbon edge. She car ried a bouquet of mixed flowers including white and yellow daisies finished with sheer white ribbon. The matron of honor was Kim S. Harris of Elizabeth City, cousin of the bride. She wore a peri winkle dress featuring sequins and spaghetti straps. Jennifer Trueblood of Hertford, sister of the groom, was the bridesmaid. She wore a mint green dress featuring sequins and spaghetti straps. The groom’s father was best man. Groomsmen were Jimmy Bunch, uncle of the groom, and Jeffery Swaner, cousin of the groom. Flower girls was Haley Stevenson of Elizabeth City, cousin of the bride. She wore a sleeveless white dress accented with pearls. Mistresses of cere monies were Evelyn Bunch, aunt of the groom, and Hope Baccus, aunt of the bride. Wedding music was pro vided by Evangeline Stevenson, orgaiiist, and Brian Williamson, soloist. Tyler Spruill of Hertford, brother of the bride, was guest register attendant. A reception followed the ceremony at the church fel lowship hall. The couple honey mooned in Norfolk, Va. The bride is a graduate of Perquimans County High School and is employed at First Christian Church, Elizabeth City. The groom is a graduate of Perquimans County High School and is employed at Morgan Farms in Hertford. Jennifer Alise Moore and Charles Eduardo Layden, both of Charlotte will be married on Oct. 22 at 5 p.m. at Whiteville Grove Baptist Church, Belvidere. Ms. Moore is the daugh- er of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas B. Moore of Davidson and Mrs. Patricia Moore of Orlando, Fla. She is a grad uate of Northwest School of Arts and earned an associ ates degree in design from Pensacola (Fla.) Junior College. Mr. Layden is the son of Douglas and Geri Layden of Belvidere and the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Layden and Dr. and Mrs. Eduardo J. Schick, aU of Belvidere. He is a graduate of Perquimans County High School and is employed at Sam’s Club in Kannapolis. Friends and relatives are invited to attend the cere mony. Women’s Club awards transition grants The Albemarle Plantation Women’s Club of Perquimans County recent ly awarded two $500 Women in Transition Grants. Earning the grants were Jessica Carey of Hertford and Dianne Layden of Belvidere. Both will use the awards for higher educa tion pursuits. Carey is enrolled at UNC Asheville, where she is studying media and com munications. Last May, she graduated magna cum laude with a double major from College of The Albemarle. While attending COA, Carey supported herself working on the wait staff of local restaurants. Layden will attend Western Carolina University in Cullowhee where she will major in emergency management. She is a COA graduate and earned her associates degree summa cum laude. Layden took early retire ment from Albemarle Hospital and has an exten sive background in both health and computers. Currently, she is an EMT volunteer and teaches CPR, first aid and AED courses for the Greater Albemarle Chapter of the Red Cross. The Women in Transition Grants are awarded to assist women over 18 achieve and main tain economic self-suffi ciency as they further their careers through education, training or support with a new business. Senior project musical to benefit Kids First There will be a benefit musical show at the Onley Place off Turnpike Road in Belvidere Oct. 15, 7:30-9 p.m. A variety of music by soloists, including Jessica Townsend, Connie Townsend, Lacey Reames, HiUary Lambiase and oth- will benefit Kids First, an ers, will perform as part of organization dedicated to the senior project of helping abused and neglect- Kristie Haase.
