7 / Community The Perquimans Weekly, November 23. 2005 3 , ^ Newbold-White House site manager Sarah Parr pre sents a program on colonial clothes and costuming to the Edenton Tear Party Chapter NSDAR. Parr addresses DAR At the November meet ing of the Edenton Tea Party Chapter, NSDAR, Sarah Parr, site manager of the Newbold-White House in Hertford, presented a fascinating program on colonial clothes and cos tuming. Her demonstration and talk included fabric identi fication and the historical use of linen, cotton, silk and wool. She also showed how each piece of colonial clothing was made and dressed a mannequin in the historically correct man ner. Also included in her talk was a brief history of the colonial era. Prior to coming to Hertford and the Newbold- White House, Ms. Parr worked at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation interpreting local and statewide history from the 18th century forward. While at Mary Washington College, Sarah worked as a costume shop assistant constructing, fit ting and making pattern costumes for stage produc tions. She also researched, constructed, fit and pat terned historically accu rate clothing for on-site interpreters while working as a costume technician at the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation. Currently at the Newbold-White House, Parr oversees daily opera tions of the site and inter prets, furnishes, develops exhibits and coordinates ongoing restoration of the site. Parr is a prospective member of the chapter and will soon submit her papers for verification by the National Society. Bowman, 50, of 833 Windom Place, Virginia Beach, Va, died at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital on Nov. 16, 2005 after a long iUness. A native of Indianappolis, Ind., he was the son of Rex and Joyce Bowman. In addition to his par ents, survivors include two brothers, Greg and Michael, both of Hertford. Amemorial service was held Nov. 19 in the Hollomon-Brown Funeraf Home by BiU Smith. Burial was in Princess Anne Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Beach SPCA. Mrs. Jones was a mem ber of the Riverside United Methodist Church. Suvivors include a son, William B. Jones Jr. of Middletown, Md.,; a daugh ter, Barbara J. Brown of Beaufort; three brothers, Lem S. Meiggs of Elizabeth City, Ike Meiggs of Virginia Beach, Va. and Raymond Meiggs of Hertfrod; two sis ters, Bertha Gregory and Katherine M. Aydlett, both of Elizabeth City; and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held Nov. 14 at Riverside United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Register Young Helper sidered, but only new man ufactured housing can qualify. Warren Lee Ernest “Jack” Warren, 58, of 209 meads Circle, died Sunday, Nov. 13, 2005 in Guardian Care Nursing Home, Elizabeth City. A natie of Perquimans County, he was the don of the late Earlier Warren and Maggie Eaton Warren. Survivors include three daughters, Jacqueline D. Warren -of Winfall, Lekendra C. Warren of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and Maggie L. Stokely of ?eliza- beth City; a son, Oliver C. Johnson of Raleigh; six sis ters, Barbara Warren, Bertha Privott and Diane Outland, all of Hertford, Izean Chestnut of Winfall, Marie, Jefferson of Halifax and Carolyn Bowe of Elizabeth City; five broth ers, Edward Woodard and Johnny R. Warren, both of Hertford, Earlie Warren Jr. ■ of Winfall, Dennis Warren of Belvidere and David Warren of Elizabeth City; 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Nov. 19 at Melton Grove Missionary Baptist Church, with Rev. Alvin J. Boone officiating. Burial followed in Cedar Wood Cemetery.
