An Elizabeth City man,
allegedly intoxicated, drove
into the river at the cause
way on Christmas day.
Rodrigo Ramirez, 25, of
425 Pinnoco Drive, was
driving into Hertford on the
causeway in a 1993 GMC
station wagon. It was esti

When he came to a sharp
curve in the road, he lost
control of the car and con

The river is shallow in

Reward
offered
A reward has been offered
in a breaking and entering
case in Woodville.
Sheriff Eric Tilley said
Monday that a private citizen
has offered a $1,000 reward
for information leading to an
arrest and the recovery of
property from a utility trailer
left in the Cedarwood Village
subdivision in Woodville.
Tilley said a locked utility
trailer owned by R&W
Construction was left at a job
site in the community late
last week, and sometime
between Jan. 5 at 4 p.m. and
Jan. 6 at 8 a.m. was broken
into. Tilley said the lock was
cut and about $4,000 in saws
and other tools was stolen.
Tilley said his office has
also received complaints
about people using the pri
vate road that runs through
the subdivision. The road
through the community con
nects Woodville and Body
roads, and is often used as a
short-cut, Tilley said. But
owner Tildon Whitehurst
built the road for use by those
who live in Cedarwood
Village, not for public access.
Whitehurst developed the
subdivision.
Anyone with information
on the breaking and entering
should call the sheriff’s office
at 426-5615.

MARGARET FISHER
A wreck on U.S.
Highway 17 and Wynn
Fork Road landed two peo

The two-vehicle acci

of the highway said
Hertford Police Chief Dale
Vanscoy.
“When (Miller) saw the
vehicle turn, he thought
that he could cross,”
Vanscoy said. “He pulled
into the path of another

That vehicle, a 2003
Ford pickup pulling a dou

traveling in the right-hand
lane of northbound traf

The Ford was driven by
Jesse Harrell, 64, of 140
Tynchtown Road in
Edenton. Harrell’s truck
hit the GMC truck behind
the cab. The impact
caused Miller’s truck to
veer off and run into a
ditch at the intersection.
Harrell’s truck ran off the
road to the right side and
slid sideways. The back of
the trailer ended up in a
ditch.
The trailer, used by
Harrell in his construc
tion business, was filled
with tools and lumber.
“The force of the
. impact drove a 2-by-4
through the front of the
trailer,” Vanscoy said.

Juveniles charged in holiday break-ins
SUSAN HARRIS
Juvenile petitions have been filed
against two Perquimans teens for
allegedly breaking and entering
into a Woodland Church Road home
twice around Christmas.
Sheriff Eric TiUey said the two
were questioned on Dec. 21 after wit

crime scene. Tilley said witnesses
saw two young males walking up to
the residence and later walking
away from the residence. Witnesses
also saw one of the same juveniles
in front of the home a few days ear
lier when it had initially been bro

Tilley and Investigator Mario
Reel questioned the two juveniles.
One denied involvement, but the
second admitted his involvement,
Tilley said, and provided a written
statement detailing the break-in.
The teen who denied involvement
had allegedly used the computer in
the home, and had logged on to his
MySpace webpage. Officers were
able to log on to the computer and
track the youth’s session, Tilley
said.
The youth who denied involve

on Dec. 21 and was released on Dec.
