The Perquimans Weekly, Hertford, N.C., December 17, 2008 FedEx Continued from page 1 and 12 part time employees. The new. facility will allow the company to add one more full time and six part time employees by 2013. The Hertford. distri bution center will serve Northeast North Carolina from the Outer Banks to Williamston. The new cen ter is expected to be opera tional by July. William Ronalter, man ager with Hertford Baseline Development, indicated that local incentives were a key factor in FedEx’s deci sion to relocate within the county. “This is a great example of a distribution company and a development compa ny workiiig closely with the county and region to bring econonjic development and land improvement to the area,” said Dave Goss, eco nomic development consul tant for Perquimans Coun ty, “We first learned of this lead from Ray White, vice president of marketing for the Northeast Commission, and we will continue to work collectively to bring jobs and investment to the area.” “North Carolina’s North east Region is primed for expansion and location • of distribution and logis tics companies like FedEx Ground,” stated Vann Rog- erson, president/CEO of North Carolina’s Northeast Commission. “Our road ways are finally becoming functional for transporting and distributing goods, and this will enable us to contin ue to diversify the economy and expand the capacity for new jobs.” Perquimans County leaders agreed to reim burse Baseline a portion of the land cost as an incen tive. That reimbursement is based on the amount of taxable investment in the • budding upon completion. Reimbursement is based on a sliding fee scale. Base line’s investment in the building has to be af least $500,000 to quality for the ' lowest-incentive of 25 per cent. A $3 million invest ment qualifies for 100 per cent reimbursement. The town of Hertford also added an incentive package since the Commerce Center is located within the town limits. While the county’s incentive package is a one time deal, the town’s incen tive payments are spread over a period of five years, but requires the facility to stay in operation for 10 years. Property taxes must be paid in order for both the town and county to reim burse Baseline. A.R. Chesson will con struct the facility. Law enforcement, court reports District Court Nov. 26 Judge C.
