Hertford Police are investigating what
they term a “suspicious fire” that occurred
at a Hertford home late Friday afternoon.
Police Chief Joe. Amos said investigation
is continuing into the cause of a fire that
was reported at 507 Castleton Drive around
6 p.m.
“No one was at home, when the fire was
reported,” said Amos. “It appears the fire
started where there was no appliances, no
heating or electrical elements that could
have caused it.”
Hertford Fire Chief Todd Tilley said heavy
smoke was coming from the structure when
firefighters first arrived on the scene. Fire
was discovered in the utility room and attic
area just above that room. Firefighters ex
tinguished the fire within minutes and con
tained fire and water damage to those areas
of the home. The remainder of the house
suffered smoke damage.
According to county records, the house
is owned by Deborah Snyder. Police say the
property is undergoing foreclosure process.
Mutual aid assistance was provided by
Bethel and Winfall firefighters. Perquimans
EMS was also on the scene.
Tilley said the HFD Auxiliary helped
with rehab for firefighters because of the
extreme heat and humidity Approximately
30 firefighters responded.

Technology has helped the
Hertford Planning Department
make the town’s zoning map
more accessible to citizens.
Before, the only way citizens
could see where parcels are lo

look at the large, aged, black and

Now, citizens can see and
download the color-coded map
from the town’s website: http://
