Stolen car wrecks; driver runs By CATHY WILSON Staff Writer The driver of a stolen vehicle ran from a North Carolina Highway Patrol man Monday afternoon after wreck ing the vehicle in a residential yard on Snug Harbor Road. Trooper Bray followed Parents seek joy for sick son By CATHY WILSON Staff Writer L oving Hudson Mimlitsch is not hard to do. ■ The seven-year-old is a cute little boy with a mop of fuzzy brown hair that caresses his pretty brown eyes and soft, pale cheeks. He loves SpongeBob, Bob the Builder, and his little toy cars. Wearing his bright yellow SpongeBob pajamas, he sits in the middle of the living room rug, playing with his toy cars while listening to a children’s show on television. At first glance, he appears much like any other normal little boy. But Hudson is far from normal. He suffers from neuroaxonal dystrophy, a fatal degenerative neurological disorder for which there is no treatment and no cure. In less than two years, par ents Brittany and Jerry Mim litsch have seen their once active little boy regress to age one, both mentally and in his physical abilities. Hudson has lost much of his eyesight and his ability to walk. He can’t swallow correctly anymore Hudson laughs as his father Jerry plays a hand game, while mom Brittany watches. Hudson has good days and he has bad days. This was a good day. the vehicle which Tilley turned off Hwy 17 onto Snug Harbor Road. Tilley said once the vehicle turned onto Snug Harbor Road, it sped up, turned right, skidded on wet grass in a residential yard and crashed into a tree. Captain Tim Hickman with the Eden ton Police Department said the vehicle was stolen from the 500-block of South Broad Street behind the Albemarle Bank and Trust building. The vehicle is registered to Kermit Layton, Jr., also of Edenton. Capt. Hickman said the owner last saw the vehicle that morning be tween 9 a.m. and noon. “Apparently, no one realized the ve hicle had been stolen until the trooper pulled it and it wrecked down there,” he added. As of Tuesday morning, no arrest had been made. Investigation is continuing. and is now fed through a tube inserted into his stomach. He, suffers seizures. After once running and playing on a soccer field with his tiny team mates, Hudson now toddles when both hands are held, much like a little one learning to walk. He crawls across the floor or is ferried on wheels. He’s back in diapers, has started suck ing his thumb, and is fed baby formula through his feeding tube. “Each challenge is harder and harder, but you get used to it,” said Jerry, 31, in his Winfall home. “Dealing with each challenge is tough, but it eventually becomes the norm as we go down this road.” See HUDSON, 8 Parrish facing 3rd complaint By WILLIAM F. You’re go ing to Disney World!” Instead, he bashfully cov ered his face and finally agreed to a grin amidst much coaxing from family members, his teacher, and school principal. Julie Roberts’s third grade class tried to spring a surprise on the youngster last week as volunteers with the Make-A-Wish (MAW) Foundation of Eastern North Carolina visited the classroom for a special Wish Delivery. No one was injured Jan. 31 when shots were fired in the area of Wynne Fork Apartments. According to the Hertford Police Depart ment, Patrolman G.E. Needham was checking an abandoned vehicle on Com merce Drive around 8:35 p.m. when he heard what sounded like gun shots near Wynne Fork Court.
