What’s Happening TODAY ■ Art Exhibit Perquimans Arts League’s is hold ing a new exhibit, "Summer Fun” with featured painter Randall Jordan. THURSDAY ■ Book Signing Author Philip S. McMullan, Jr., one of the local authors of North Carolina’s Blacklands Treasure, will attend a book signing Thurs day at 2 p.m. at the Perquimans County Library. ■ Bingo American Legion Post 126 hosts bingo on Thursdays at 6:45 p.m. at their building at 111 W. Academy St. ■ Movies at the Library Every third Thursday of the month, the Perquimans County Library will offer a movie geared toward adults at 10 a.m. ■ Weight loss Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) holds weekly support group meet ings on Thursdays from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Perquimans County Senior Center. FRIDAY ■ Children’s Matinee The Perquimans County Library will hold a children’s matinee every Friday at 2 p.m. until school begins. SATURDAY ■ Farmer's Market Perquimans County High School's FFA program will hold a farmer’s market every Saturday through Sept. 24 at Missing Mill Park from 8 a.m. until noon. MONDAY ■ Alzheimer’s Support The Alzheimer-Dementia Sup port Group for family members and caregivers meets at 1 p.m. Monday at Hertford United Meth odist Church. For information call 426-7167 or 333-7774. TUESDAY ■ Weight Watchers Weight Watchers will meet on Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. at Hertford United Methodist Church’s Fellow ship Hall. Call 331-5426. JULY 12 ■ Painting Class Instructor Randall Jordan will teach two acrylic painting work shops: “Gang of Five” on July 12 and “Silhouette Beach” on July 21. Each class is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Perquimans County Recreation Center. The cost is $35 for PAL members and $40 for non-members. All supplies in cluded; no experience necessary. JULY 12-14 ■ Cheer Clinic A cheer camp will be held July 12-14 girls grades two through five at Perquimans County High school. The cost is $40, or $30 for each additional child. JULY 13 ■ Summer Reading The Perquimans County Library will offer a teen summer reading program July 13 at 2 p.m. with Sam Pollock of the fish hatchery in Edenton. JULY 14 ■ Book Signing Ron J. Ben-Dov, a local author of faith-based and secular poetry, will attend a book signing July 14 at 2 p.m. at the Perquimans County Library. JULY 19 ■ Bike Safety The Perquimans County Library will offer a program on bike safety July 19 at 2 p.m. JULY 20 ■ Clown Show The Perquimans County Library will offer a clown show on July 20 at 2 p.m. J U LY 2 3 ■ Kudzu Junction Carolina Moon Theater will pres ent Kudzu Junction July 23 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 and on sale at Carolina Trophy. JULY 27 ■ Blood Drive The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive July 27 from 2-7 p.m. at the Belvidere-Chappell Hill Fire Department. ■ Library Cookout The Perquimans County Library will offer a cookout as part of the teen summer reading program on July 27 at 2 p.m. Registration is required. For information call 426-5319. ■ Watercolor workshop A “Playing with Paint” water- color workshop with Sheryl Corr is scheduled for July 27 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Perquimans County Recreation Center. The students and their families attended a club meeting to receive their schol arships and have meal with club members. Thescholarshipsweremade possible due to the successful annual fundraiser on May 14. The event included a chicken and barbecue dinner catered by Nixon Catering and an auc tion. The auction included do nated new and used merchan dise, handcrafted items and baked goods made by club members and local neighbors. Gifts and gift certificates were also donated by businesses in Hertford and Elizabeth City. The club extends thanks to all who contributed to the event In addition to scholarships, the club supports the local volunteer fire department, meals on wheels, senior bingo and lunch, Boy Scouts, 4-H, Wounded Warriors and the Food Bank.
