Fisheries officer is honored Iappening

recently received the 2016
Marine Fisheries Enforce
ment Officer of the Year
award from the Governor’s
Conservation Achievement
awards program.
The awards presented
by the federation honor
individuals, associations,
businesses and others who
have exhibited unwavering
commitment to conserva
tion in the state.
Maready, a member of
the Marine Patrol for 10
years who patrols the Alli
gator River and Albemarle
Sound area.
“I’m just honored
to even be put in for
it,” Maready said.

lic on fisheries re
sources, rules, reg
ulations and laws.
Maready grew up in
its, recreational and com
mercial license violations,
the illegal sale of seafood
and larceny of gear. Some
times, solving these cases
involved undercover opera
tions.
Maready also serves as
a field training officer for
new hires and he partici
pates in the newly formed
Marine Patrol Education
the Beulaville area gradu
ated from East Duplin High
School in 1988.
After high school, he
joined the U.S. Air Force
and served in Operation
Desert Storm. While in the
Air Force, he was a part of
the security police unit.
When he left the mili
tary, Maready enrolled at
Wayne Community College
to study Fish and Wildlife
Management; however, the
program was cancelled be
fore he could finish his de
gree. He then entered into
the Basic Law Enforcement
Training program there,
and graduated in 1993. That
same year, he was hired by
the Duplin County Sheriffs
Department. In his 13 years
with the sheriffs office, he
moved up the ranks to ser
geant, worked as a detec
tive in the Investigations
Division, and then was
lieutenant over the Patrol
Division.

bia with Ids wife, Christy;
daughter, Zoe, 12: and son
Gabriel, 17.

TOWN OF WINFALL
PUBLIC NOTICE
On September 21, 2016 the Town of Winfall
had a Sewer Spill due to the rainy weather.
Pumping Station # 1 @ 216 West Main Street in
Winfall,NC. A citizen of the Town discovered
the spill and Mr. Melvin Jackson the ORC
was contacted, He said approximately 100
gpm (gallons per minute) had been released
which is approximately 30,000 gallons was
released into the swamp which leads to the
Perquimans River.
