THE PERQUIMANS WEEKLY, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 26,2016 3 HOFFLER Continued from 1 PAIGNS, SERVICE: First political campaign ■ CIVIL/COMMUNITY AF FILIATIONS: Vice- Commander- American Legion Post 362, active member of Perquimans County NAACP, member of the Town of Hertford ABC board. JONES Continued from 1 Vice Chair - Perquimans County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council, Social Services Board, Recreation Advisory Board, Perquimans County Teacher of the Year Committee ■ FAMILY: Single, no children. “Folks know me, they know what I stand for, and they know that I take a lot of pride in our board of com missioners as a whole. As the vice chairman of the board, I know that I have my seat by the will of the people. People have sat in it before me, and many more will sit in it after me. So I think it’s important to be mindful that the decisions we make now will impact future boards. Four years ago I came onto a board that was widely known for two things: the conservative way in which it spent the taxpay ers' money, and a professional, collegial atmosphere that got things done. During my tenure, I’ve worked closely with my fellow com missioners and county manager, and developed close relationships with them, to see that those two accomplishments have continued, and I’m very proud of that. We’ve managed the taxpayers’ money well, and our tax rate remains the lowest in the region. “As for the future, census data shows us that our County is going to get progressively older. Our senior population is going to increase substantially over the next 20-30 years, and I think our priori ties as far as expenditures have to reflect that. Whether it's with EMS services, our senior center, or ex tension programs, I think we have to do more to address the needs of our growing senior population. Aside from that, I intend to make sure that our board continues to be one that our citizens can be proud of, and one that ensures that the county provides the best services at the lowest cost to the taxpayer." ■ FAMILY: Married to Judie Felton Hoffler. Together they have four children and six grandchildren. “I am running for county commis sioner to give all of the people in Perquimans County a voice in their government. While campaigning throughout the county, I was sur prised to learn how many citizens who were not even aware that the board of commissioners even exists and the impact it has on their lives. “I hope to bring jobs to Perquimans County and infuse some new blood into the system. Perquimans Coun ty is still run by the ‘good ole boy’ network that was in place when I was raised here in the 1950’s. I hope to instill trust between the citizens and the board, which pres ently is not the case.” WOODARD Continued from 1 Pharmaceutical Society, deacon Hertford Baptist Church. ■ FAMILY: Father- E.C. We can em brace progress without sacrificing our identity, traditions and culture. “We can embrace progress without sacrificing our identity, traditions and culture.
