Letters to the Editor
How many of Trump’s promises will fall by wayside?
Dear Editor,
Absentee ballots all over the
country are still being counted. As
I wrote this, Clinton was ahead in
the popular vote by 668,483 votes.
On Nov. 8, Trump was projected to
win the Electoral College, but the
Electoral College doesn’t vote un
til December 19. Will the popular
vote sway the Electoral College?
Also, now that the campaigning
is over and the mask is starting to
slip, what is Trump really going to
do for our country?
The military? Well, he didn’t at
tend any Veteran’s Day events. I
guess the President-elect can’t be
bothered to honor our veterans.
Abortion? He wants to leave it
up to the states. In fact, he recently
stated that women wanting abor
tions should just travel to another
state if abortions are prohibited
in their state. That doesn’t sound
very pro-life to me.
Obamacare? He said he would
repeal it. Now, he’s saying that he
wants to keep key provisions of
Obamacare.
Putting Hillary in jail? He’s back
ing off on his promise to appoint a
special prosecutor to investigate
Clinton.
Immigration? Before, he want
ed to deport all undocumented
immigrants. Now, he plans to de
port just the dangerous ones. Paul
Ryan has confirmed that there
won’t be a “deportation force”, as
promised by ’frump.
Environment? Big business will
be in charge of “protecting” the
environment.
Taxes? Trump frequently talked
about helping working people, but
under his tax plan the top one per
cent will get a much greater ben
efit than middle-income families.
The rich getting richer?
National debt? He claimed he
would eliminate the debt, but his
own team has said that his poli
cies would add $10 trillion to the
debt.
Money in politics? He claimed
he would be self-funding. Didn’t
happen. He was supported by his
billionaire buddies who will ben
efit from his administration.
Nepotism and DC lobbyists?
His transition team includes three
of his children and lots of Wash
ington insiders. With his children
involved, will Trump really meet
the blind trust standards with his
business interests and avoid con
flicts of interest? With so many
billionaires on his Team, who will
be looking out for the 99 percent?
Trump’s 100-day plan includes
prohibitions on lobbyists. But, he
has a bunch of lobbyists in his
transition team.
As we get closer to inauguration
day, how many more of Trump’s
promises will fall by the wayside?
Stay tune, folks.

2016 General Election brought out passion on both sides
Dear Editor,
Stunning images dominated the
presidential elections, beginning
for me with the post-election map
of the United States by county.
Except for slivers of blue along
both coasts and pockets of blue in
urban areas, the map was almost
all red. Then we got TV reports
on street protests in several large
cities and flag-burnings on college
campuses. These images tell us a
lot about how divided a nation we
have become.
The map shows a stark division
between rural and urban America.
The protests, moreover, confirm,
beyond simple geography, that we
have two Americas with essentially
different values. These differences
have always existed, but it took an
election between two flawed can
didates with enormous negatives
to arouse passions on both sides.
The majority of citizens outside
our cities, feeling disenfranchised
by a leftist government insensitive
to their needs, voted against what
they saw as a corrupt Democrat
machine that would only make
matters worse. “Drain the Swamp”
became the perfect expression of
their anger, as they rallied for the
one man who heard their cries and
gave them hope. What the biased
media and the pollsters missed
was the depth of their passion.
The street and campus protest
ers railed against election results
that threaten their generous enti
tlements. Will they now be forced
to pay for their own food, their
own medical care, and, as Hillary
promised, their free college edu
cation? The eruption of slanders
from an embarrassed media says it
all: How will we survive in a coun
try run by bigots and racists?
I submit that we are not a nation
of bigots and racists. Most Ameri
cans are not haters. They are law-
abiding citizens who believe in
equality and in the freedom and
opportunity to eqjoy their God-
given rights of “Life, Liberty and
the Pursuit of Happiness.” Maybe
it’s time for all of us to retreat to
a quiet corner and to re-read the
Declaration of Independence. In
this season of Thanksgiving, we
should all be grateful to be living in
this great country of ours.

Clinton learned the lesson it is a man’s world
Dear Editor,
On Nov. 8 Hillary Clinton
learned a hard lesson —
that it’s still a man’s world
politically. Along with mil
lions of other ‘deplorables’
who cling to our religion,
guns and principles I sent a
message to Hillary and her
ilk that we’re not taking it
anymore. She, along with
her fellow traitors, anar
chists, malcontents, young
white, educated women,
millennials and a growing
eclectic horde of leftist mis
fits should feel free to ex
ercise the option of leaving
America as others have said
they’d do if Donald Trump
becomes the president.
For those who said they’ll
leave the country if Trump
becomes president are such
notables as Samuel L. Jack-
son who keeps asking me
what’s in my wallet. Here’s
the answer, Samuel...It’s a
bus ticket to Cape Breton,
Nova Scotia where they say
they’ll gladly take you in
and help with getting you
settled into your new corm-
try. It’s the best 1 can do
on short notice. And as an
added component our new
president gets to fill his first
Supreme Court vacancy to
replace retiring justice Ruth
Bader Ginsburg who’s said
she’ll be making the trip
north with you. There’s a lot
more misfits who’ll be along
soon as they get the courage
to go so I’m hoping you’ll all
get along together.
In time perhaps Jeb Bush
and his treacherous and rot
ten family will head on up
that way but I really don’t
know why Jeb would want
to do that because I remem
ber his saying to Donald
Thump: “Donald, you’re not
going to insult your way to
the presidency- it’s not go
ing to happen”. You know
you’re going to Hell for ly
ing, doncha, Jeb?

Do unto your neighbor
as you would to yourself
Dear Editor,
One needs to look at a
few facts about the pro
posed Apex wind turbine
project and proposed solar
projects that are attempt
ing to secure conditional
use permits in Perquimans
County. The people that
have signed leases for the
most part do not live in Per
quimans County.
Also, most of these people
did not work to purchase
the property, they inherited
these properties from fami
ly members. The same thing
could be said of existing so
lar projects.
People do not care about
the impact of their decisions
on their neighbors. All they
think about is the fact that
they will receive a check
from a company from out of
the area Most of these lands
are productive agricultural
lands that will be needed
to feed the people in the fu
ture. The people that want
to force these projects in
Perquimans County would
not want them next door.
Ithink we should remem
ber this : “Do unto your
neighbor as you would have
him do unto you”.
We have a beautiful coun
ty, let’s keep it that way.

Mother defends son’s
actions in fight
Dear Editor,
I am very concerned how
my son is being portrayed
in these articles through
out North Carolina and Vir
ginia. There is a difference
of opinion as to the involve
ment of my son’s actions. I
have been told by two of the
facility members at the high
school as to how they felt
Austin had acted. I am quot
ing, “ he acted in a chival
rous manner to protect the
female staff.”
Please find my son’s side
of the story of his action,
and his reasons for involving
himself. He truly only want
ed to help with the violence
that was being committed
on the female facility.
I sincerely thank you for
your assistance in this mat
ter. We need the truth to be
accurately portrayed.
Sincerely,
Tracy Deziel
