We hope that all of our mem bers have been working on their entries, and we’re excited to see all of the new work! The exhibit will run ED SANFORD from Au gust 24 to October 2. This year the prospectus is available to our entire PAL mailing list. The show is open to PAL members only, but anyone who would like to join prior to the show will be welcome to participate. Get prospectus. Please bring the completed form when you come to drop off your work, including attaching labels to the back of your work. This will save time and will expedite the drop-off process. Members may submit up to 3 works for a fee of $25. Details regarding require ments are included on the prospectus. Work was to be dropped off on Monday, August 17, Tuesday, August 18 or Wednesday, August 19 be tween the hours of 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. No work will be accepted after this date. Speaking of prayers, offer those to the family of former PQ Schools Superintendent Dwayne Stallings, who passed Aug. 9 - his mother, Anna Faye Stallings, passed away Wednes day, Aug. 12. In other news, a rally has been scheduled for Monday, Aug. 24, to protest how there is no Black principal in Per quimans County’s four schools and also the low performance rates by Black students taught within those schools. Organized by the local chapter of the NAACP, the protest is to start at 6 p.m. at the county’s Board of Education of fice on Edenton Road. Local businessman Tony Riddick penned a letter to the editor listing reasons why Hertford Mayor Pro Tern Ashley Ashley Hodges should resign. See related story on page Bl. Going to be differ ent without football and other sports this fall. Assistant District Governor Russ Hadd ad spoke to Hertford Rotary at the group’s meeting Tuesday. He introduced the District Governor Spencer Stanley who presented some awards to this group of distinguished Rotarians. More on that in a future edition. Saw Sandra Sperry the other day. Sperry is regent of the Edenton Tea Party Chapter of the National Society for the Daughters of the American Revolution - a group that has mem bers in Perquimans and Chowan counties among other places near and far. If memory serves me correct, Sperry has held many offices during the past 48 years of service with the NSDAR includ ing State Chairman of The Flag of the Unit ed States of America Committee and also the Assistant Editor of the Tarheel Patriot State Newsletter. Phillip McMullan Jr. has added his skill with a pen to assist produc ing another book, “The Oldest Brick House in North Carolina ; English Settlers, Quakers and the 1730 Newbold White House.” Book’s front cover features a photo of the Newbold White House and says it is edited by McMullan and H. John Ernst III. Congrats! Book to be pub lished by Pamlico and Albemarle Publishing and sold to benefit the Perquimans County Restoration Association. Staff and teach ers led by example by wearing masks. After a student’s tem perature was taken by staff, they were asked a series of health questions before be ing allowed to proceed to classes. Social distancing was practiced. Students exited the school buses one by one - usually at least 6 feet apart. Desks divided the hallways so as to keep people apart as they trav eled through the schools. Floors were scrubbed so that they shined sparkling clean. Everything was san itized. As of Friday, howev er, the county had already received more than 300 requests for this Novem ber’s election, an elec tions official said. Perquimans Board of Elections Director Holly Hunter said during the 2016 presidential election, there was a total of 216 absentee ballots cast. The request form for an absentee by mail ballot can be returned to county election offices by email, fax, mail for in person. Absentee ballots must be returned to a county elections office by 5 p.m. on election day.
