Nearly 50 volunteers from all six Perquimans fire departments participated with three firefight ers who met their National Fire Protection Association 1403 bum training standard requirement. “What a great day for a live bum mutual aid training! It’s not every day you get an older house that’s in good shape, so we took advantage and invited all the de partments in Perquimans County,” said Belividere-Chappell Hill Fire Chief Lee Dail. Master Gardeners Celebrate Success FROM STAFF REPORTS Despite the challenges of 2020, the Chowan, Gates and Perquimans County Exten sion Master Gardener pro gram continued the mission of helping gardeners put knowl edge to work. Over 60 volunteers were in volved in the program and in 2020 there were 11 newly certi fied Extension Master Garden ers. To complete certification, volunteers must complete a 4Chour training program and a 40-hour volunteer internship through North Carolina State University. To recertify, volunteers must complete a minimum of 10 hours of advanced training and 20 hours of volunteer service.
