Um't Labour's Lost A etir of interest went through the audience at the show Monday night when just before the per formance began Officer Williams strode into the ring and began to call for "Ragan, Mr. A.H.Kagan." Mr. Kagan not forthcoming the po liceman left, leaving the crowd to peculate whether fire, flood or bur glars had struck the First National Bank. As a matter of fact there wa nothing at all threatening the bank; only James Everhart, in dur ance vile, was calling for financial assistance, for the guardians of his captivity, namely the police, re garded with unconcealed skepti cism the captive' 8 check against Mr. Kagan's bank. And it was to obtain information of a more defi nite character that the guardians of the peace sought out the cashier, It was Jim's paternal lore that brought him into conflict with the -minions of the law and this is the manner of his fall. It seems that the pride and joy of Jim's heart is his son and heir, yclept Cicero. This is a youth of convivial habits who has been known to look upon the wine when it was red or, more literally, the lightning when it was white to such an extent that he is not totally unknown to the Mayor's court. Some days ago being unu anally exhilirated, Cicero engaged in a pugilistic disputation with an unknown party, which debate was rudely interrupted by the strong arm of the law in the person of Of ficer Clodfelter; whereupon Cicero turned his attention to him to such effect that the policeman as a last resort smote him mightily with his billy -exit Cicero. And so endeth the first chapter. When this news was brought to James his wrath was aroused great ly, and when Cicero was brought to trial Monday night the indignant parent was on hand burning for vengence. As the trial progressed and it became more and more ap parent that Cicero was in a fair way to be what is vulgarly termed "jug ged" his paternal rage mounted higher and higher; and when all was finally over and his beloved child cruelly adjudged guilty, the injured father's indignation boiled over; the fire had mounted too high, the pressure became too great and the boiler burst! Jim walked up to Officer Clodfelter and hit him in the eye! Great commotion! Simulta neous descent of all the power of the State represented by Officer Wil liams and the temporarily one eyed Clodfelter. Hurried reassem bling of his honor's court. Sudden downfall of Jim! Fine $10.00 and costs. Then rose that cry of dis tress noted in the opening para graph of this eventful history, and the hasty summoning of Mr. Kagan to testify that Jim's check was good. So be reassured all ye de positors. It was not burglars but Tames Kverhart in the bonds of captivity that disturbed the cash ier's repose. Vengeance is sweet, but! CHURCH DIRECTORY. Let us pause in our discussions Of women's right to vote And for a time consider A question less remote. No doubt the rights of women Have been ignored by men. No doubt by these same creatures They'll be ignored again. But that is not the question; What now concerns us more Shunts politics and pushes Religion to the fore. That is to say, shall women Take off their hats in church, Or give the men around them A more exalted perch? According to the fashions Prevailing most to-day The women's giant bonnets Block up the narrow way. So men can not get in it, Or even see ahead, And soon they will be hitting The broad one that is red. Now, therefore, will the women Adopt a different plan? Or will they keep the bonnet And sacrifice the man? H". . Lampion in N. Y. Times Appetite Gone Your strength is failing; what lit tle you eat distresses you; you are bilious, have headache, backache, feel blue and melancholy, and can get no rest or sleep. It is a case of unstrung nerves. Dr. Miles' Nervine is prepared for just such conditions, and seldom fails, because it soothes irritated nerves, and assists the nerve cells to generate nerve energy. 1 wu weak, nervous, had no appe tite, no ambition, waa nervous and easily excited. Doctors gave no-relief. I began taking Dr. Miles' Nervine, and mm now perfectly well. Less than $10 cured me." V, A.
