In a simple ceremony, Miss
Nellie Frances Sales, daughter of
Mrs. Cosby Sales of Cooleemee,
and the late L. F. Sales, and Wil
liam Walton Webb, son of Mr.
and Mrs. M L. Webb of Coolee
mee, were mraried Saturday
morning, June 7 at 10 o'clock, at
the Church of the Good Shep
herd, Cooleemee.
Rev. W. P. Price, rector of the
church, officiated. Miss Margaret
Kirk, organist, played The Grace
of Christ, Our Savior, Traumerei,
O' Perfect Love, and To a Wild
Rose, before the ceremony. The
Wedding March from Lohengrin
was used for the processional;
Mendelsshon's March was used as
the recessional.
The bride wore a powder blue
dress with black accessories, and
a shoulder banquet of white gar
denias.
Mrs. Webb, the bridegroom's
mother, wore a blue printed chif
fon dress with black accessories,
and a shoulder bouquet of white
garHoniya
After the ceremony, the couple
left on a wedding trip to Ashe
ville, N. C. and Washington, D. C.,
after which they made their
home in Rocky Knoll, near
Cooleemee.
Mr. Wands Gets
Promotion
Mr. William Ross Wands, for
merly General Overseer of No. 3
Bleaching and Dyeing, was made
Assistant Superintendent of the
Cooleemee Bleachery and Dye
Works effective June 1, 1947. Mr.
Wands was graduated from North
Carolina State College in 1932,
and he came with the Erwin Cot
ton Mills Company immediately
after graduating.
Mr. Wands married the former
Miss Frances Moore of Salisbury
in 1937, and they have three chil
dren, Frances Moore, Betty Jane,
and William Ross Wands, Jr.

Mr. John Leslie Junes, former
ly Assistant Manager of the Erwin
Cotton Mills Company Plant No.
3 in Cooleemee, has recently been
made Manager of this plant, suc
ceeding Mr. E. ML Holt.
Mr. James was graduated from
North Carolina State College in
1927. While a student at State
College, Mr. James his sum
mer vacations working with the
Aileen Mills at Bisooe and the
Smitherman Cotton Mills at Troy,
N. C. In July 1927, after gradu
ating from college, he went with
the Erwin Cotton Mills Company
in Durham, working in various
departments of the mill.
In May 1929, he went with the
Burlington Mills in the Designing
Department, and in June of 1930
he returned to the Erwin Cotton
Mills as Assistant Oversea- of No.
4 Card Room. In October 1990,
he was made Overseer No. 4 Card
Room In October 1930, he was
made Overseer of No. 4 Spinning,
Winding and Warping, and in
May 1932, he was made Super
intendent of No. 1 Plant in Dur
ham.
On May 4, 1941, he came to
Cooleemee as Assistant Manager
of No. 3 Plant.
Mr. James was married to Miss
Flonnie Holt of Star, North Caro
lina, in December of 1929.
Lewis Made Head of
Production Standard*
R. H. Lewis, Jr., has recently
been named Director of Produc
tion Engineering for all the Com
pany plants.
His employment with the Com
pany dates back to September,
1936, after receiving his B.S. De
gree in Commerce from the Uni
versity of N. C. in 1935 and BJS.
in Textile Manufacturing from N.
C. State College in 1936.
He spent the next two and one
half years learning different
phases Of textile
popularly known as "working
through the mill."
In February, 1939, he was
transferred to the Time Study
Department After two years in
this department he was made
supervisor of the Standards De
partment for the Durham plants.
Mr. Lewis served in the U. S.
Navy May 1942 to March 1946,
2V4 years of which he was on sea
duty, where he attained the rank
of Lieutenant He returned to the
employ of the Erwins Mills in
March 1946, and resumed his po
sition as Supervisor of the Stand
ards Department
He was born in Oxford, N. C.,
the son of Mrs. R H Lewis and
the late Mr. Lewis.

CLUB HAS PICNIC
On Monday night, July 28, the
Cotton Club went to Peeler's
Lake for a picnic. The evening
was a great success, with good
food, fun, and thunder showers
adding to the merriment.

In Durham
Officials of the Company have
announced the promotion of K If
Holt to the position of Assistant
in the Supervision of Manufac
turing in all the Company's
plants.
Mr. Holt's return to Durham is
welcomed by all employees of the
Durham plants, as well as his
many friends in Durham not con
nected with the plants. He is a
native of Durham County, having
been born near Orange Factory,
the son of the late Mr. and Mis.
E. P. Holt, and grandson of Dr.
E. M. Holt. After the death of
his parents at the age of twelve
he moved to Erwin to make his
home with his uncle, Dr. William
P. Holt
After graduating from Oak
Ridge Military Institute Mr.' Holt
