Turn Pike
Continued from Page 3
Lives spent recldessly witliout thought to Christ
and his forgiving cross. Agnosticts have traveled
this turnpike in vast numbers only to wind up on the
side of the road crumbled and crushed.
Athiest and infidels have flung themselves over
the cHffs of doubt and disbelief.
Yes the casualty rate on this turnpike has been
very high in spite of the terrible history of tradgedy,
the turnpike to torment continues to be well
traveled. Mothers put their children on this road by
neglecting to teach them of their responsibility to
God.
Fathers put their children on this road by their
neglect to Emphasize the duty of man toward their
Creator. Preachers and deacons, choir members
and pew members watch countless numbers enter
this turnpike and fail to warn them of their danger.
May God have mercy upon us if we close our
mouths while millions go hurtUng to their
destruction. Jesus stands before us and asks the
question: Can I count on you?
To warn those heading for the Turnpike to
destruction; Can I count on you to be a living stop
sign halting the unsuspecting souls whom Satin has
decieved. What my friend, will be your answer to
these two all important questions?
Ill; THE TURNPIKE TO TORMENT LIKE OUR
MODERN DAY TURNPIKE COST SOMETHING TO
TRAVEL ON IT
It is not to difficult to get on the average turnpike,
in our community but rest assured there will be a
price. Church membership without the new birth is
not sufficient to pay the toll, good intentions and
human morality is not sufficient. Being an
outstanding citizen in the community, giving to
charity won't pay the toll. None of these things can
meet the demand of a Holy God. Also think of the
many persons who have come to the end of the road
without their dignity, their reputation, all because
sin has robbed them of them.
Ask yourself the question my friends, is the
journey on the turnpike to torment worth it. The end
of the road will find anquish and dispair, fear and
frustration. Why risk these terrible consequences.
When the Lord of Heaven offers happiness and
prosperity Jesus bids us get off the turnpike to
torment while it is yet time, with all of the afore
mentioned calamitys, the greatest calamity for those
traveling the turnpike to torment is the calamity of
coming to the end of the road and having no chance
to enjoy the fellowship of God or to stand in his
presence. Perhaps the greatest punishment in
torment is the punishment which comes to one
through separation from God.
from God.
Oh how terrible to be separated from him who is
light. This means nothing but darkness to be
separated from him, his love and mercy, this means
nothing but wrath and justice.
To be separated from him who is peace and joy,
this means restlessness and sorrow. Oh sinner I beg
of you to abandon your vehicle of destruction and
leap clear before it hurtles you into eternity without
hope and without God.
On the turnpike to torment church members we
dare not fail to wave the flag of danger and
destruction to the passing millions who are speeding
headUng toward the turnpike to destruction
preacher and deacons it is imperitive that we direct
the spiritual traffic of lost sinners away from the
turnpike to torment to the highway to heaven.

CHURCH CALENDAR
New Hope Baptist
Church is located at 906
Meredith Street.
Sunday School is begun
each Sunday morning at
9:45 a.m., morning wor
ship at 11:00 a.m., and
some type of evening
service each Sunday at
7:30 p.m.
The church was organ
ized on Thursday before
the second Sunday in May
1967, under the leader
ship of Dr. E. J. Love. It
had its first service on the
second Sunday in May
that year at the Christian
Church. Inauguration
services were held at the
Emmanual Baptist Church
on Leonard Street the
following Wednesday.
The sermon was delivered
by the Rev. L. L. Macon.
The membership has
grown from 17 to more
than 150,
Our church was first,
located on Hulda Street,
Through God’s many
blessings and Dr. Love’s
leadership, we have
purchased the building
we are now occuping at
906 Meredith Street. We
have completely reno
vated and furnished it.
Also we own a beautiful
pastorium located at 1207
Cedrow Drive. Our chur
ch owns two buses as well
as other things that God
has given us through the
leadership of Dr, Love.
This man, we believe is
truly a man of God. He
has worked hard in and
around our church, yet he
gets no pay nor does he
ask for any praise. He’s
said many times, “I’m just
trying to work out my
soul’s salvation,”
Dr. Love reminds me of
Job sometimes. He has
suffered much, prayed
hard, and is still holding
on to God. His motto is,
"God can do anything,
and if God be for you, no
man can be against you”.
His accomplishments are
far beyond those which
words can explain. He
has brought us a program
worthy of any people.
The community feels his
presence wherever he
goes to render services.
The affable way in which
he meets and deals with
people makes us proud to
call him our pastor.
Dr. Love has , a
wonderful helpmate. She
has been by his side
through his joys and
sorrows, aches and pains.
We feel that she has been
some of the inspiration in
all he has been able to
attain. She is called upon
on many occasions for
help which she always
gives.
Through Dr. Love’s
leadership and Mrs.
Love’s helping hand, we
are a people with hope
and faith in God.
Dr. and Mrs. Love will
be leaving for a vacation
in Cahf. on August 20.
