label. Check each set of lights, even new' ones, for
broken or cracked sockets, frayed or bare wires or loose
connections. Check the label on outdoor lights to be
sure they are weatherproof. Don't use indoor lights
outside or vice versa. Fasten outdoor lights securely to
trees, house walls, or some other firm support to
protect them from w ind damage. And don’t attach more
than three sets of lights to one extension cord. It is also
a good idea to turn off all lights on trees and other
decorations w hen you go to bed or leave the house. The
lights could short and start a fire. Keep bubbling lights
aw'ay from kids. They are attracted to the bright colors
and bubbling movement and may break the candle
shaped glass and cut themselves or drink the liquid
which contains a hazardous chemical.
If you are considering earning extra money by selling
greeting cards, check out the reputation and reliability
of the company before you sign any agreements or send
them any money. While most of these companies are
legitimate, some are not. And since most of them
require that you pay for the cards before you get them,
be sure you know what you’re buying..and that your
customers will receive their cards in time to send them
before Christmas.
If vou are planning to buy a live Christmas tree for
your family this year, select a fresh tree. It w ill stay
green longer and be less of a fire hazard than a dry tree.
To check for freshness remember: ...a Fresh tree is
green. The needles are hard to pull from the branches.
And when you bend a fresh needle between your
fingers it does not break.
...The trunk of a fresh tree is always sticky with
resin.
