Miss Tynes, an A&T grad uate, will climax the series 8 p.m. The series will also include a concert by Jessy Dixon and the Dixon Singers on Novem ber 10 and a concert by the internationally known Rod Rddgefs Dance Company on March 22 - 27. After finishing A&T, she received a master’s degree from Colum bia University and studied at the Julliard School. Miss Tynes has concertized throughout the United States and she has sung under the batons of the world’s fore most conductors. She currently makes her Four Bennett Students Receive UNCF Scholarships GREENSBORO-Four Bennett College students re ceived special United Negro College scholarship awards for the academic year 1975 - 76. Joyce Bass, a sophomore from Creedmoor, N.C., re ceived the Bodman Founda tion Scholarship of $1,100. She is a journalism major in the Interdisciplinary Stud ies Program at Bennett. Joyce was recently honored for hav ing maintained an “A” aver age during the previous school year. She is associate editor WSSU Holds Chess Tournament WINSTON-SALEM - The Winston-Salem State Uni versity Chess Club in con junction with the Southern Chess Administration virill sponsor the Winston-Salem State Open on Saturday, Oct. 25, and Sunday, Oct. 26. This chess tournament, sanctioned by the North Carolina Chess Association, is nationally rat ed. Registration for players will be held on Saturday, Oct. 25, in Hauser Student Union- Ballroom from 8:00 A.M. - 9:30 A.M. T^ere will be an, entry fee of $12.00 - Lower Section and $18.00 - Top Section. The first round of play on both Saturday and Sunday will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the Ballroom. Observers are welcome at all times without admission. A not ed singer, arranger and pianist and organist, Dbton formerly was accompanist for the late Mahalia Jackson and jazz singer Marion Williams. He recently received a Grammy nomination for his song, “Hello Sunshine”, and he was named “Gospel Artist of the Year” at Madison Square Garden. The Rod Rodgers dance Troupe features abstract styles, dance drama, jazz and modem works done to the music of popular arts artists. In addition to directing his own company, Rodgers has directed the “Black Cow boys” and choreographed sev eral productions for national television.
