Reappearing after a 4-year absence, Freda Payne, a star of stage, screen and radio, sings “I Hear Rumors,” “You,” and “Seems So Long.” A native of Detroit, Miss Payne starred in the motion picture, “Book of Num bers,” with Raymond St. Jacques, and formerly toured as vocalist with Quincy Jones’ band. Her three gold records, “Band of Gold,” “Bring the Boys Home” and “You Brought the Joy” have made her a much sought after night club act. The Whispers, five young men who have suhp i together since their Watts high school days, are making their sixth appear ance on Soul Train. In their distinctive soft, soulful style, they perform “Little Red Riding Hood” and “In Love Forever.” Wallace and Walter Scott, Nicholas Caldwell, Marcus Hutson and Leaveil Degree are The Whispers whose latest album, “Bin go, ” is climbing the hit lists here and abroad. Costs to the taxpayers drop drastically since keeping a ijilstitu^bn has been estimated at approximately $10,000 per year.
