A RIDDLE IN RHYMES
by
Rev. T.M. Walker
The lower age levels are not afraid of me,
But for me they do have respect.
They deny being little devils when coming to see
If I require that they live correct.
Those who are older always keep me alive
In the young, or else they may cry.
As the young get bolder and I still survive,
Doubt of me shows in their eye.
WHAT AM I?
Not in the south, nor in the east nor west
Will you find my cold headquarters.
By word of mouth 1 am located best
In the north for sons and daughters.
From up there I come regular, year after year,
Sailing along up in the sky.
Hoping to miss none who hope to find cheer
That was promised to come by and by.
WHAT AM I?
When making my visit I do not enter doors,
Yet I manage to get on the inside.
Some wonder who is it tip-toeing over floors
To prevent eyes from opening up wide.
When I leave a place I just go up and up.
And I sometimes wonder why
I don’t smut my face and soil my white muffs
As I again take off for the sky.
WHAT AM I?

cants are high school
seniors and therefore
qualify for four year
scholarships, Speight said.
Scholarships are maintain
ed during the four year
period as long as the
recipients are full-time
students who are not on
academic probation. They
must also remain in the
teaching program agreed
upon.
Loan recipients repay
their obligation to the state
by teaching in North
Carolina public schools one
year for each year’s award.
If they choose not to teach
in the state, students may
repay loans in cash at a six
percent interest rate. A-
wards made prior to this
year are repayable at a four
percent interest rate.
