A stirring address by Miss
Nannie H. Burroughs of Washington,
D. C., and the awarding
of eetrificates to war mothers
climaxed the 17th annual HomeMaking
Institute of Bennett
College, here Sunday.
Miss Burroughs spoke in Annie
Merner Pfeiffer Chapel
before a large audience, many
of whom are war mothers.
Each mother received a certifi
cate of recognition. These were
presented by Miss Barbara
Ware, chairman of the HomeMaking
Institute Planning
Committee.
The speaker told the war
mothers that there were making
one of the greatest contributions
a human can make when they
send men out to fight for freedom.
She expressed the firm convition
that this war is the best
thing that could happen to the
nation since it is the first time
that men and women in all nations
are desiring to make the
world a place to live in.
"The Negro is determined to
make the world a larger place
for-, democracy and a smaller
place for race prejudice, she
asserted.
Miss Burroughs was introduced
by| Mrs. Ada Jarnigan; of
Warrenton, N. C., president of
the N. C. Congress of Parents
ind Teachers.
Miss Laura Allston made a
report on the Home-Making
programs of the weelk which
were held at Shiloh Baptist
Church, Charles Moore School,
Browning Chapel Church, and
East White Oak School.
The college choir sang under
the direction of Orrin Clayton
Suthern, II, and Miss Janet
White sang "Ava Maria." Rev.
J. E. Brower read the scripture
