BIBLE SCHOOL C1X1SES
The two-week term of the
daily vacation Bible school* of
Bethel A. M. B. church closed
Monday night with a special
program rendered by the children
of the school, which was
enjoyed very much. Exhibits of
work done during the session
were on display and many useful
items were made by the students.
The Bible school was directed
by Mrs. Lina B. Smith and the
other members of the staff on
instruction were Mrs. Eunice V.
Cotton, Mrs. Gertrude Donneli,
Mrs. Maude Edwards, Miss Liucile
Ayers, Miss Mae Kathertne
Johnson, Miss Marjorle Nance,
and Miss E. Fisher. Dr. W. C.
Cleland, pastor of the church,
taught a teachers' training group
of young ladies who are preparing
themselves for Sunday school
work.
"It is our plan,'' said Mr. O.
Donneli, "to have a more interesting
Bible school next year."

HIGH POINT MAN
PREFERS MARRIAGE
TO ROAD SENTENCE
HIGH POINT, June 27?Erven i
marriage isn't as bad as a 12month
road sentence.
That was apparently the reasoning
of Eddie Montgomery, locar
man, who was today sentenced
to 12 months on the road by
Judge D. C. McRae m municipal
court when he faced a charge of
exposing a child to fire. Evidence
heard in court was that Montgomery
had left a 7-year-oldt boy
padlocked in while he Was away.
Police found a kerosene lamp on
the floor and other dangerous
conditions when neighbors reported
the Incident. '
But Eddie'thought fast and at
the conclusion of court made
Judge McRae a proposition. He
told the court that while he was
the father of the child, as well
as three others, he was not married
to their mother. He would
