' 6IX . Poplar Grave The Poplar Grove school has had a very active week with Operettas being presented by the . primary and grammar grades. On May 9 the grammar grades presented an Operetta, "Cinderella," under the direction of Mrs. Alvarada Irvin and Miss Lucille Dean. The characters were very fittingly selected for each part and showed superb training on the part of each teacher. On May 16. the primary grades also presented the Operetta, "Fairies Are Really True" under the direction of Mrs. Anne Reynolds, Miss Viola Boone, and Miss Ruth V. Comer. The auditorium was filled to capacity, and the little ones were at their best, which also showed dramatic technique on the part of the teachers. Mrs. l\Iartlia Sebastian was the very outstanding guest at our program Friday night, and while there was presented a booklet of book reviews by one of the pupils, Virginia Waugh, . ( TH1 Alio gave reviews of books read .his year from the Carnegie Library. The booklet, written entirely by the pupil, was dedicated to Mrs. Sebastian, who had made it possible for pupils of Poplar Grove school to read library books. Mrs. Sebastian in turn presented t oher a lovely book for having shown such great interest in the books. Mrs. Anne Reynolds, one of our primary teachers, lias been coufiucd in L. Richardson hospital for some time. We hope for her a speedy recovery. Mrs. Gertrude Johnson, wife | of editor J. F. Johnson, of the Future Outlook, is substituting for Mrs. Reynolds while she is ill, and is doing quite a nice job of it. The teachers of the school had a very pleasant surprise when several of the parents brought dinner to the school and served them most sumptuously. The dinner consisted of fried chicken, baked ham, string beans, potato salad, fruit jcllo. cake, pie, and lemonade. The teachers were all very grateful to them for their thougtfulness. The community regrets the loss of Mrs. Milton, who was buried last Wednesday. Funeral was held at White Oak Grove church. The Gospel Spreaders of the community, under the direction of Mrs. B. R. Jones, will sing at Bass Chapel church Sunday, May 25, at 8:15 p. m. The public is invited. 'ived. .. Parents are sponsoring this program. The P.-T. A .of Bass Chapel is functioning nicely, and is indeed a very active organisation, under the leadership of Mrs. Mary Sue Napper, president. The teachers had another pleasant surprise Wednesday, May 22, when a group of parents from Bass Chapel served a very consisting of broiled chicken, j deliciaus and tasteful dinner* green peas, creamed potatios* green mixed salad, strawberry shortcake and Bussian tea. The teachers were again grateful to the parents for their kindness. I,.
