. TWO Four-Star Cast In "Two Years Befo Alan Ladd, MacDonald Carey, Howard Da Silva and Wanda Hendrix will' make up the star cast in the Lux Radio Treatre's dramatization ot "Two Years Before 'the Mast" Monday at S p. in. over WBIG-CBS. William Keighley is in charge of program production. Adapted from Richard Henry Daua's thrilling saga of the sea. "Two Years Before the Mast" describes conditions aboard American commercial sailing vessels in 1835. Alan Ladd plays the yax u ui uiianes oiewan, a wemthy ship-owner's sou who is shanghaied aboard one of his father's ships. The captain portrayed by Howard Da Silva refuses to listen to Charles' demands to be put on shore and makes him work as a crew member. The former gentleman of circumstance is shocked by the terrible living conditions aboard ship and even more by the poor food given to the seamen. At first, begause of his different background, he is unpopular with the rest of the men but is accepted after he proves his ability to withstand hardships. Richard Henry Dana (MacDonaid Carey), a sailor who hopes to bring about improved conditions in the future by writing a book based on his records of the voyage, becomes Charles' close friend. The ensemble will present the hit song from the Broadway success, "Call Me Mister," the exciting "Red Ball Express." | Warnow's "picture in rhythm" will be the Spanish novelty, !'Espana Cani." Miss Gibbs will sing the new ballad, "You Do," and the novelty hit, "Ballin' the Jack," as her solo selections. The Pled Pipers will present their own arrangements on two songs. "Sound Off" With Mark War now Is,announced by Tip Corning, written by Charles Graves and directed and produced' by Chas. Herbert. Maestro Spitalny and his all-girl orchestra and choir will mark their return to the Great White Way with tunes representing the musical comedies, operas, ballets and concerts scheduled for the fall season. Suggestive of the new concert season, Evelyn, concertmistress and star of the "Hour of Charm," will play as her solo a favorite with audiences everywhere, the Final Movement of Mendelssohn's "Violin Concerto." Turning to the operatic repertoire, Joanne, young soprano, will sing the beautiful aria, "One Fine Day," from Puccini's opera, "Madame Butterfly." The Spitalny brass choir will bp. featured in "Home On the-*^"37^5." chosen to represent/^Ue Rodeo at Madison Squary'Garden. No program suggestive of the New York season would be complete without a tune from the hit musical, "Brigadoon." Hence the orchestra and choir will open the program with the title number from this show.' Other orchestral numbers will be "Siboney" and "You Are Always In My Heart," both by Lecuona. Local hospitals secured supplies of this blood plasma soon after it was released and have made it available to all physicians in Greensboro and Guilford county. ?
