$1738.36 Raised In Baby Contest At New Goshen Church
The New Goshen Methodist Church was crowded to its limits
last Sunday as members and friends came to witness the closing:

six cent Baby Contest. Rev. Eugene Black, the pastor, expressed
great delight over the fine response of the parents and friends of
more than twenty babies of the contest. This contest was sponsor

Carolina Annual Conference
of the African Methodist Epis
copal Church which convened
in Lenoir, N. C? November
11-15, the Reverend Mr. L. S.
Penn, Sr., was appointed to
Bethel A. M. E. Church here.
He and his family served in
Raleigh, N. C. at Saint Paul
A. M. E. Church for the past
eleven years before coming to
Greensboro.
Accompanying the minister
are Mrs. Myra V. Penn, Jr.,
Joseph and Ruth Penn. The
latter two are enrolled in the
Lincoln Jr. High School here.
Edward, another son, is serv
ing in the Armed Forces in
Korea, and another daughter,
Mrs. Nanita Penn Riddick
her daughter and husband live
in Baltimore, Maryland.
Reverend Penn did his col
lege work at Howard Univer
sity and is an alumnus of the
School of Religion of Howard.
He^ has also taken a course at
the'- University of North Caro
lina at Raleigh, N. C. He has
served as pastor of a number
of churches in the Baltimore
and Washington Conferences.
Before coming to Raleigh he
was active in the two Ministe
rial Alliances of Raleigh.

Christmas Dinner Party
Members of the Progressive
Club of Bethel -A. M. E.
Church were highly enter
tained in the home of Mrs.
Alice Benton, 109 Daniel
Street, Thursday evening, De
cember 3,, beginning at 8 p.m.
The occasion was the Club's
annual Christmas dinner par
ty, with Artis Boddie serving
as host.
The house was beautifully
decorated with Christmas hol
ly, Chrysanthemums and gree
nery, giving the festive occa
sion a real holiday atmosphere.
Various types of games were
played during the evening.
Gifts were exchanged among
members and guests.
Dinner was served buffet
style. The menu consisted of
roast turkey with all the trim
mings, baked ham, green peas,
sliced tomatoes, tossed salad,
pickles hot rolls, coconut cake,
fruit cake and coffee.
