Jones RETIRED SCHOOL PRINCIPAL, DIES Beatrice Rosalia Shaw Jones, daughter of the late Isham and Sally Shaw was born in Greens boro, N. C., on August 6, 1892 and departed this life July 17, 1967. She received her elementary and secondary training in the public schools of Greensboro. The B. S. and M. A. degrees were received at the Agricultu ral and Technical College here in the City. She did further study at Teacher's College, Co lumbia University, New York City. From 1920 to 1926 she served as principal of the Poplar Grove School here in Guilford County. Following this, she worked as a classroom teacher in Leaksville, North Carolina for four years. She then returned to Poplar i Grove as principal in 1930 anJ[ served in this capacity until her] retirement in 1960. During her ' administration, the school grew j from a small four-room wooden building to a fourteen-room j brick structure. She was a well j loved and respected person inj her community and was ever ready and willing to go the extra mile for anyone who needed her service. She was married to the late Milton M. Jones, a native ol Greensboro, who was a leading Mortician in Reidsville, N. C. Being an accomplished musi cian, she was the accompanist for the "Ever Ready Chorus" o* the Institutional Baptist Churc1 and the organist for the Whi?< Oak Grove Baptist Church ir the Poplar Grove communitv a well as many other places wherr she was needed as long as he* health permitted. She was a life member of the National Education Association a member of Zeta Phi Beta So rority. Inc., in which organiza tion she was named Wom?n of the year in 1P*7 a member o* the North Carolina Teachers' Association, the Guilford Conn tySchoolmaster's Cl"b and the Guilford County Teacher's As sociation. MARY HEMMINGS JONES Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Hemmings Jones were conducted at St. Matthews Methodist Church, Greensboro, North Carolina on Sunday, July 16, 1967 at 1:00 p. m. Rev. James C. Petert, Pastor, St. Matthews Methodist Church and Rev. Howard A. Chubbs, Pas tor, Providence Baptist Church, officiated. Mrs. Mary Hemmings Jones, daughter of the late Reverend and Mrs. Gordon E. Hemmings, Sr. was a native of Buckingham Co., Virginia. Educated in Lynchburg, she taught in Camp bell County, Virginia prior to her marriage to the late Rever end Wesley A. Jones, also of Lynchburg. To this union were born three daughters. j She was an active member of the Diamond Hill Baptist Church, Lynchburg. Virginia for many years before coming to Greensboro, N. C. to live with her daughter and son-in-law. She immediately transferred her membership to Providence Baptist Church of Greensboro, where she was active in the Philathea Club and served on the Deaconess Board. In her endeavors to fulfill her high ideals, obligations and re sponsibilities, she dedicated her life to the well being and happi ness of her family and others. She departed this life at L. Riehprdson Memorial Hospital on July 14. 1967. Manv hanpy memories of the nqst retain her survivors: two daughters, Juanita J. Golds borongh and Florence J. Cobb of Norfolk.
