Marion Jones is the Pastor, will have a service at Bethel at 3:30 p. m. Sunday, August 13. States Rally Banquet In a beautiful green and white setting, the States Rally Ban quet was held in the Fellowship Hall at Bethel Church, Thursday, July 13, at 8 p. m. Guests were greeted by hos tesses upon arrival at the church. Among the guests were , the four ministers of the Unior Services and their wives whc , were seated at a special table next to the governors' table Mrs. Ethyel Anderson served as Mistress of Ceremonies. The women of Bethel whc served as governors of the vari-. ous states in the States Rally, looked lovely in their after-five dresses and badges of red, white and blue as they marched in the Parade of States. The president elect, Mrs. Connie Clapp, fol lowed Mrs. Ida B. Wilkins, vice president elect to the stage where Miss Modgie Enzlow con ducted the swearing-in ceremo ny, and presented tokens to the three winners, Mrs. Clapp, Mrs. Wilkins. and Mrs. Mamie Hooks. Mrs. Lydia Quick stood in for Mrs. Hooks who is ill. The president-elect presented her acceptance address with grace and poise, and pledged her loyal support to the church. M. Wilkes. Miss I Williams won the contest by | raising the sum of $307.00. | Other persons participating were: Mr. John Fodrell who was sponsored by Mrs. Bertha B. Smith with $183.00; Mrs. Agnes Goldston. sponsored by Mr. Charlie Moore with $251.00; and Mr. John Mlckel, sponsored by Mrs. Johnsie Dawkins with $S3.75. A total of $834 75 was raised. Rev. C. W. Anderson, pastor; Mr. Charlie Moore, leader. SONG FESTIVAL TO BE HELD On Sunday, July 30 at 5:30 p. m. at the ' Mt. Tabor Methodist Church, a song festival will be sponsored by the Methodist men. They will end the festival by presenting the Methodist men choral group and the Loflin Memorial Methodist Men Gospel singers. The Mt. Tabor quartet will also be on hand. MARTF.ENA RETIRES AS HEAD OF LIBRARY Aftei 30 years of service as head of Bennett College's Thom as F. Holgate Library, Mrs. Con stance H. Marteena has retired. A native of Richmond, Va., Mrs. Marteena received her un dergraduate education at Hamp ton Institute and the master's degree from the Library School at the University of Chicago. She has traveled extensively in this country and abroad, holds numerous professional member ships and has written extensive ly about library science. She is the wife of Jerald M Marteena, dean of the school oi engineering at N.C.A. & T. Uni versity here. ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION The Missionary Circle of the Pilgrim Baptist Church will cel ebrate their anniversary Sunday, July 30, 1967 at 3:00 p. m. The speaker will be Rev. J. D. Eight Added To Staff At Bennett College The addition of eight persons to the faculty and staff at Ben nett College for the 1967-68 aca demic year was announced this week by President Isaac H. Miller, Jr. Joining the faculty in English will be Nathaniel Gaylord of Burlington, North Carolina, and Karry Humes of Greensboro. Mr. Gaylord, formerly of the Jordan-Sellars High School fac ulty, is a graduate of Shaw Uni versity, holds the M.A. degree from North Carolina College and is enrolled in the Ph.D program at the University of North Caro lina at Chapel Hill. Mr. Humes, who last year taught part-time, is a graduate of Bloomsburg (Pa.) State College and holds the master of fine arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Cfreensboro. Mrs. Burma Wilkins of Greensboro, who has been a member of the faculty of Dudley High School, comes to Bennett as instructor in social science. She holds the B.A. and M.A. from Howard University, Wash ington, D. C., and has done fur ther slur'y at the University ol North Carolina at Greensboro. Vernon L. Jackson, of Vienna, Md.. a graduate of Morgan State College, with a master's degree from Atlanta University and further study at the University of Paris, will teach French as a National Teaching Fellow. Mrs. Hortensia Boudy, of Greensboro, with advanced degrees from the University of Havana, will teach Spanish. Mrs. Barbara H. Bryan, who j last year served as assistant li brarian at Jackson (Miss.) State College and has served in the libraries at Morgan State Col W\ Rust College and Dillard University, joins the library staff. A Bennett graduate with a M.S.L.S. degree from Syracuse ? University, Mrs. Bryan at one time taught library science courses here. Also reioining the faculty is Miss Julia Wilsnn who will teach accounting.
