VOL. 27, NO. 7 GREENSBORO, NORTH CAROLINA, FRIDAY, DECEMBER 8, 1967 PRICE 10 CENTB TWENTY-SIX YOUNG LADIES INTRODUCED AT DEBUTANTE BALL The 1967 Debutantes superbly execute the "Z" formation, a Zeta symbol, at the 17th annual Debutante Ball at A&T State Unl ?eralty Memorial Union last Saturday night. Miss Bannie Kay Gore re ceives the beautiful Inscribed cup, one of several honors be stowed upon the 1967 Debutante Twenty-six charming young ladies were introduced to society at the 17th Annual Debutante Ball last Saturday evening at the North Carolina A&T State University Memorial Union Ball Room, at Greensboro. The Debutante Ball, spon sored by the Zeta Alpha and Beta Nu Zeta Chapters of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Greensboro, N. C., was the high light of all the activities planned for the 1967 debutantes. Other activities were: June, Get-Ac quainted Party; August, Cookout for Debs and Friends; October, Charm Workshops; November, Parents' Tea, Display of Talent, Entertained by Sorority at the Showboat Dinner Theater and > Queen, from Miss Marilyn Simpson, basileus of Zeta Alpha Chapter of the Zeta Phi Beta sorority. Naming of Queen and other honors. Using the theme, "Autumn Fantasy", the ballroom was beautifully decorated; accented with yellow chrysanthemums and autumn leaves. Warm greet ings and welcome were extended by the Bete Nu Zeta Chapter Basileus, Mrs. Alfonso E. Gore,; Mrs. Comey Enzlaw presented the young ladies as each walked gracefully with her father to the escort who was gallantly waiting at pie end of the ballroom. The charming Miss Bannie Kay Frances Gore, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Alfonso E. Gore, reigned as queen of the debs. The coronation of the queen by the first runner-up, Miss Nancy Gilmer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wade Gilmer, and the pres entation of cup to the queen by Miss Marilyn Simpson, basileus of the Zeta Alpha Chapter, were the significant honors bestowed upon the 1967 Debutante Queen. The choreography, directed by Mrs. Lillian Harris and Mrs Ruth Halsey, consisted of the Debutante figure and the "Z" Formation, was beautifully exe cuted by the young ladies. Also the Grand March, led by Miss Nancy Young, 1966 Debutante runner-up. Daddy's Dance and the Debutantes' Dance with Marshalls and Music by the Vet? Combo, all were superbly ap praised by the overflowing audi ence. Final Rites Held For School Teacher, Mrs. Helen Holt Alexander I Mrs. Helen Holt i Alexander of 745 Monroe St., Rick | ville, Md., and formerly of 1011 Bluford St., died suddenly Thurs d a y, Nov. 3 0, 1967, in R?ck ville, Md. She was edu cated In the pub lic school of! Mrs. Alexander Greensboro graduating from A & T State University, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Library Science from Catholic Univer sity in Washington, D. C., re ceiving a Master of Science in Library Science from North | Carolina College in Durham, and doing further study at Columbia University in New York City and the University of Maryland in College Park, Md. She has taught in the Guilford County, Forsythe County and Montgom ery County School Systems. She was a member of Delia brook Presbyterian Church, Winston-Salem, the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, the Jacks and Jills, the National Librarian Association, the Democratic Women of Winston-Salem and Forsythe County, other librarian and teachers' organizations and (Continued on Pafe 4) Philysia Crumpton Age 12, Dies From Auto Injuries Philysia Crumpton, 12-year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Crumpton, who died Sun day from injuries received when she was hit by a truck on Ashe boro Street. Services were held at 2:00 p. m. Tuesday at Bethel A.M.E. Church. Rev. L. S. Penn, pastor, officiated. Burial fol lowed in Piedmont Memorial Park. She lived with her parents at 1202 Bellevue Street. Survivors include her parents; three sisters, Virginia Crumpton, Sharon. Crumpton and Palma Crumpton; one brother, Wayne Crumpton, all of the home. Bethel News First Quarterly Conference tor Conference Year The first Quarterly Conference tor the conference year 1968 will convene Monday, December 11, at 8:00 p. m. in the Fellow ship Hall at Bethel Church. Dr. G. S. Gant, Presiding Elder of the Greensboro District, A.M.E. Church, will preside. Dr. Gant will be the speaker at Bethel Church, Sunday, December 10, during the morning worship service. To Observe Fifteenth Anniversary The Pulpit Aid Club of Bethel Church will observe their fif teenth Anniversary Sunday, De cember 10. at 3 p. m. at the church. The Rev. Mrs. Lucy James will be the speaker. The choir of St. Stephens A. M. E. Church of Liberty, N. C. and the Gospel Choir of Bethel will render music for the occasion. The public is cordially invited. Handel's Messiah Several members of the Sen ior Choir of Bethel Church joined other choir members from churches throughout the city and surroundings to participate in the annual program of the Ora torio Society ? "Handel's Messi ah" which was presented at the War Memorial Auditorium Sun day, December 3, 1967. As usual, the program was well received. Subscribed for Ebony?
