AGGIE STAR LLOYD
LIGHTFOOT WAITING TO
INK BASEBALL PACT
A & T baseball star Lloyd
Lightfoot learned the hard way
that he has been drafted by the
Baltimore Orioles. He read
about it in Sporting News near
ly two weeks after he had been
drafted.
"I had been contacted by Bal
timore officials before the draft"
said Lightfoot. "They just told
me they were interested in me.
I haven't heard from them
since."
The Orioles drafted Lightfoot
in the 10 th round as a shortstop.
They indicated that he would
go to Stockton, Calif, in the
Class A League.
A native of Buffalo, New
York, Lightfoot was a baseball
and basketball star at Kensing
ton High School.
He was a sparkplug for the
Aggies the past four seasons.
Last summer, Lightfoot became
the first Negro to participate in
the Shenandoah Valley League,
composed mostly of college
stars.

VETERANS
ADMINISTRATION
Recent changes in the GI
home loan program should make
it easier for thousands of unre
married widows to get GI home
loans, W. R. Phillips, manager
of the Veterans Administration
Regional Office fn Winston-Sa
lem announced today.
Basic eligibility requirements
are that the widow's husband
either died on active duty or
from a service-connected dis
ability, Phillips said, and the
veteran's service was during
World War II or after June 27,
1950.
A new law permits the VA to
guarantee home loans up to
$12,500 of the loan amount but
not more than 60 per cent of the
loan, Phillips added.
The higher ceiling on GI loan
interest rates that went into
effect recently should help these
widows to get a GI loan from a
commercial lending institution,
he said.
Many eligible widows had
husbands who served in World
War II; under current legisla
tion, they still have more than
two years to obtain a GI loan ?
until July 25 1970.
Entitlement for qualified wi
dows of men who served in the
Korean Conflict is not scheduled
to expire until January 31, 1975.
Widows whose spouses served
during the Viet Nam era ? or
any time after January 31, 1955
? will have their eligibility ex
pire:
(a) 20 years from the date of
the veteran's death in ser
vice,
(b) 20 years from the date of
the veteran's discharge,
or
(c) March 3, 1976 ? whichever
is later.
Phillips said that veterans'
widows who think they qualify
for GI loans may obtain fur
ther information by writing to
the Veterans Administration
Regional Office at Winston-Sa
lem, N. C.
