Veterans' Corner
(Editor's Note: Below are
authoritative answers by the
V et e r a n s Administration to
some of the many current
questions from former service
men and their families. Fur
ther Information on veterans
benefits may be obtained at any
VA office.)
Q ? When I get out of service
I'll still have to finish high
school. Would it be smart for
me not to use my G. I. Bill edu
cation and training entitlement
while completing high school so
that I can have all of it avail
able for college?
A ? There is no need to "save"
your entitlement for college.
Last year Congress passed a law
permitting veterans to receive
an educational assistance allow
ance ($130 a month for a single
veteran in full-time training)
from the Veterans Administra
tion while completing high
school. This allowance will not
be charged against your full
entitlement to college level
training under the O. I. Bill.
Q ? Can I buy a particular
house I would like under the O.
I. loan program, even though the
idler insists on getting more
Ann Am VA appraisal price?
A? Yea, you may, provided
that you are willing to pay In
cash the difference between the
amount on the Veterans Ad
ministration Certificate of Ap
praisal and the actual selling
price of the house.
Q ? I would like very much
to serve as a volunteer in a VA
hospital but my free time is
limited to a couple of hours
during the middle of the day. Is
there a need for volunteer help
during these odd hours?
A ? There certainly is. The
Veterans Administration Volun
tary Service can use help just
about any hour of the day, any
day of the week, generally be
tween 9:00 a. m. and 9:00 p. m.
There are all kinds of jobs to be
done. Check with your local VA
hospital. Your interest and as
sistance will be most appreci
ated.
