EXAMINER SAYS HEROIN POISONING KILLED YOUTH The Guilford County medical examiner ruled Wednesday, Jan. 14 that 19-year-old Philip Mc Lean died last Saturday from heroin poisoning. Police said earlier that they suspected some kind of drug and that the left arm of the youth bore needle marks. Dr. Allan Coggenshall, medi cal examiner, reported that blood samples taken from McLean "showed he had taken some heroin" and that a package of powder taken from his clothing was "unquestionable heroin". The tests of the blood and powder were made at the N. C. Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill. Police said McLean, son of the Bev. and Mrs. Charles B. McLean, was found critically ill early Saturday at his home and was dead on arrival at Moses Cone Hospital at about 4 a.m. Phillip McLean was the al leged slayer of Sherwin Wins ton, July 20th who died from pistol shot wounds at L. Rich ardson Hospital. Detectives are continuing in vestigation of the case In hopes of finding the source of the drug. Mr. Phillip McLean, age 19, of 328 E. Lee St. was dead on arrival to the Mooes H. Cone Memorial Hospital on Saturday, I January 10, 1970. Funeral services was held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, Jan. 13, at the Mount Zlon Baptist Church with the minister, the Rev. Frank Williams, officiating. Burial followed in Piedmont Memorial Park. 1 ! DEPUTIES PROBING DEATH OF JESSE MITCHELL The death of Jesse Mitchell, 42-year-old resident of Rt. 3, Greensboro who died from a gunshot wound received on New Year's Eve is being investigated by the Guilford County Sheriff's Department. The incident, according to deputies, occurred at Ivory's Club on Stage Coach Trail. Mitchell died Saturday in Wes ley Long Hospital. MB. JESSE MITCHELL.
