MORE THAN $5,000 RAISED AT MUSICAL EXTRAVAGANZA FOR ST. MATTHEWS CHURCH The St. Matthews United Church Choir presented "A Mu sical Extravaganza" in the Ann!/. Merner Chapel at Bennett Col lege Sunday, Sept 27, 1970 at 7:30 p.m., under the direction of Miss Juanita Wells. The choirs presented and their directors were: the Combined Choirs Mrs. Nina G. Gates; the Junior Choir, Mrs. Currie B. Shipps; the Men's Choir, Mrs. Brenda Hodge; the Senior Choir, Mrs. Nina G. Gates, Soprano and Miss Juanita Wells, Director; the St. Matthews Gospel Choir, Sally Robertson, Soprano; Ruth Halsey, Contralto; Johnny Hodge, Bass and Mrs. Brenda Hodge, Director. Guest on the program were the Bennett College Choir, Mr. Frank L. Boulware, the Bennett College Gospel Choir, Loyce Harper and the Rising Gospel Singers. The program was given to raise funds to secure $5,000.00 for an organ and piano for the new St. Matthews Church being constructed at E. Florida and Asheboro Streets.
