PUBLIC TO DECIDE CLAY-FRAZIER BOUT It the fight fans have their way, Cassius Clay and Joe Frazier will meet in the ring. This is what the early returns say In a history-making poll being conducted by Boxing Illu strated magazine through Oct 15th. A sampling of the ballot, which is being tabulated by the research firm of Devon, Inter national, shows Clay running away with the vote with 88% compared with 12% casting a negative decision. Because Joe Frazier's manag er, Yank Durham, has said that "the public will decide" whether there is a bout or not, the public was Invited to take part in this poll, which is expected to have ' a direct impact on the schedul 1 ing of a major championship bout. Returns are pouring in from every state in the Union as well as from overseas, and the magazine expects over 10,000 bailots by the time the polls close. Fans who have not yet cast their votes still have time, ac cording to Boxing Illustrated publisher, Burt R. Sugar. All that's needed to enter is a post card addressed to "Frazier-Clay Poll, P. O. Box 210, Grant Cen tral Station, New York, N. Y. 10017". The card should indi cate yes or no to the question of whether Clay should or should not be allowed to fight Frazier, and the fan's name and address. All ballots must be postmarked no later than midnight, Oct. 15, 1970.
