Collins Grove Church Raises $2,023.85 In Baby Contest The goal was reached during a program held at Collins Grove United Methodist Church, in the Guilford College Community on Sunday evening at 6:00 p.m. to a Baby Contest that was spon sored by the Church Program Committee. The funds are to be used for further addition to the present church structure. Two thousand twenty-three dollars and eighty-five cents ($2023.85) was reportedly rais ed by eleven captains and babies and also supported by other members of the Church Congre gation and Community. Winner Micheal Scott Fitz gerald, four year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Fitzgerald of Micheal Soott Fitzgerald 1209 Bilbrow St., Greensboro^ N. C., won his first Baby Con test for the Collins Grove United Methodist Church reporting a total of $568.00. His sponsor was Mrs. Henrietta Huntley. The parents of Michael would like to thank each one for the suc cess of their son in this contest The number of veterans tak ing police, fireman and other "protective service" training un der the G.I. Corbett, who has made his living the past 20 years by singing the praises of others, was given a dose of his own medicine Saturday night as near ly 300 associates, friends and wellwishers honored him at a testimonial at Holiday Inn ? Four Seasons. Corbett, the associate director of planning and development at A&T State University, heard himself lauded for outstanding accomplishments to the Greens boro community and to the na tion. Former Mayor Carson Bain praised Corbett for his work in promoting Greensboro, especial ly through his participation In the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce. "He is the kind of man who has always stayed in the back ground," said Bain, "but he wu never too busy to promote the work and accomplishments o I others. He was instrumental in bringing the popular CIAA Bas ketball Tournament to our -city and he has always been active in the Chamber of Commerce." Corbett for years was active in the Chamber's 8 O'clock Club and was on the Public Relation* Committee and the Travel Con vention Committee. Dowdy, president of A&T; James Avery, national president of the 20,000 member fraternity, which Corbett head ( Continued on Pift 4) 20TH ANNUAL DEBUTANTE BALL SET FOR SATURDAY, DEC. 5, 1970 Many and varied activities have been planned by the local chapters of Zeta Phi Beta Soror ity, Inc. for its prospective deb utantes. The debutantes, all stu dents of local high schools will be presented by the Sorority Saturday, Dec. 5, 1970 at 8:00 P.M. in the Moore Gymnasium, A&T State University. During the early summer, a cook-out was held for all in terested debutantes. At this time prospective debutantes were registered. They were later In troduced to their counselors, all of whom are members of the sorority. Rehearsals for debutantes and escorts have been held at inter vals. An added feature of the pre sentation, the 1970 Debutante Ball, will be the presentation at the "Debs of Tomorrow." These future debs and escort* repre | sent ages 11-13 years.
