Passes After Illness In Greensboro
Dr. Frederick A. William^
director of planning and de
velopment at A. and T. State
University and a member of
the North Carolina State Com
mission of Corrections, died in
L. Richardson Memorial Hos
pital here Monday morning after
a brief illness.
A funeral mass was held Thurs
day, Dec. 17 at 10 a.m. in the
Episcopal Church of the Re
deemer, with Father Carlton O.
Morales officiating.
A funeral service was held
Thursday at 4 p.m. in the Rich
ard B. Harrison Auditorium
with the Rev. Cleo McCoy of
ficiating. Burial was in Pied
mont Memorial Park with
Brown's Funeral Directors in
charge of arrangements.
A nationally known agricul
tural economist. Dr. WUUama
bad formerly served as a con
sultant for the World Bank and
had conducted agricultural re
search in the Middle Blast, India,
and Africa.
A native of Beaufort, N. C.t
Dr. Williams had been associat
ed with A. and T. State Uni
versity in various capacities
since 1950, when he joined the
staff as Dean of the university's
Graduate School.

Willie Bates, age 70, Of 106
Melrose Ct., died Saturday, Dec.
12, 1970 at L. Richardson Me
morial Hospital following an ill
ness.
Funeral services were held
Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1970 at
2:30 p.m. from Hargett Me-;
mortal Chapel. Burial followed j
in Piedmont Cemetery.
Survivors are: wife( Mrs. Julia
Lawson Bates of the home; four
daughters, 4 sons, 10 grandchil
dren, nieces, nephews, relatives,
and friends.

Mr. James Arthur Evans, age
81, died at Evergreen Nursing
Home Monday, Dec. 14th fol
lowing several years illness.

Services and was a professor in
the School of Arts and Sciences.
A respected scholar, Dr. Wil
liams held teaching fellowships
at Michigan State University,
the University of Wisconsin and
at the University of Khartoum
in the Sudan, Africa.

suddenly Friday night at her
home.

She is survived by her hus
band, Walter Malone; Sr. of
Washington, D. C.; two daugh

course that covered phases of
small business management.
The businessmen completed
