James received his elementary and secondary education in the public schools of Greens-1 boro, N. C. He also attended A&T State University and did further study at New York Technical Institute. He was a member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church and sang with the Boys' Sextet. James received an honorable discharge from the Navy in 1945. Surviving are his twin daughters, Dianne Lynnette and Deborah Annette both of Greensboro, N. C.; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Scott of Greensboro, two sisters, Mrs. Claudia S. Clayborne and Mrs. Thyresa S. Plowden; one brother Mr. Thurmon Scott, all of Baltimore, six nephews, two nieces and a host of relatives and friends.
