f September 1, 1944 THE NORTH CAROLINA SHIPBUILDER Pare S The Pay Check Which day in the week do we look forward to the most? Friday! Why? It's pay day! So, we decided to follow a representative employee through that day with the cameraman close at our heels to snap the high lights. M. R. Noah, 72362, a welder, was selected as the model. Formerly of Durham, where he was a route foreman for the Pet Milk company for 12 years, he was employed here Oct. 5, 1942. He and Mrs. Noah, formerly Miss Grace Neese, of Graham, and their four children live on Vance street, Maffitt Village. He's missed but one week from work and is a good War bond buyer. When interviewed, he was very frank in telling us he likes Wilmington and his work "very much." Now, the pictures: 1 Mr. Noah checks in at his time card rack. 2 He gets down to work. 3 J. H. Bryan, supervisor, hands him his pay check. C. F. Matteson, assistant foreman in the Welding department, is in the background. 4 The day's work over, Mr. Noah returns home to be greeted by his young son, Don, who raced out to meet him, Mrs. Noah and their baby daughter. 5 He cashes his check at a local bank. 6 The entire family lines up for the final picture. They are, left to right, Jack A., Mrs. Noah, Linda, Mr. Noah and M. R., Jr., with Don standing in front with his dad. To acquaint yourself with the many steps taken from the punching of his time card to receiving his check, we suggest you glance back to page two and read the article headed "Pay System Involves Numerous Steps, Extensive Cooperation."
