Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Berry spent Sunday It Boone. ■■ifi f Attorney R. F, Crouse attended court in Winston this week. Mr. A. G. Palmer, of Galax, Va., was a visitor in town Wednesday. Mrs. R. B. Harrell, of Elkin visited relatives in town last week. Mr. Wayne Waddell left Thursday for Cleveland, Ohio. James McD. Wagoner spent the week-end with his family here. Mr. Duke Bledsoe made a business trip to Raleigh last week. Mr. Clint McMillan of Salisbury, was in town on Sunday. Mrs. Lonnie Landreth and little daughter, Laurine, spent last week With Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Irwin. Mrs. Minnie J. Jones of Elkin is visiting her daughter, Mrs. George Cheek. Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Barker of El kin, are spending a few days up here this week. Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Edwards of Sparta, announce the arrival of a daughter on June 1. Miss Mary Ellen Hardin of Roa noke, Va., is the guest of Miss Doris Hackler,. Bobby Woods of Pearisburg, Va., is spending some time with his grandftiother, Mrs. J. R. Hawthorne. Miss Maggie Osborne spent last week with Miss Lila Poole at Bay wood, Va. Miss Annie Marie Choate, who has been attending Davenport Col lege, is home for the summer. Miss Mildred Shores spent last week at Bridle Creek, the guest of relatives. Mr. Hugh Choate left Wednesday to attend school at A. S. T. C., in Boone. The fish fry which was held on NeW River last Saturday night was attended by a large crowd. Mrs. Vance Choate left Tuesday for Boone, where she will attend summer school. ' Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Carson, of Ral eigh, are spending a few days with homefolks. Dr. T. R. Burgiss and J. M. Cheek, i Jr., were in Winston-Salem on busi ness Monday. The little son of Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Roe. who has been ill, is slowly improving. Mr. William Curtis Ezell, district Supervisor of Relief, was a visitor in town last week. Ralph Cheek, who has been in school at University of North Caro lina, returned home last week. Gov. and Mrs. R. A. Doughton spent several days in Raleigh last week. Mrs. Ellen Parks, who has been visiting in Washington, D. C., has returned home. Patrolmen G. R. Duncan, S. L. Lillard, W. L. Hatcher and Carlysle Ingle were in town Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Porter of Pennsylvania, announce the arrival of a daughter, May 24. Mr. Fifriis Wagoner, of Shelby1, is spending this week with his fam ily here. Messrs. Arthur Wooten, George .Edwards and Lawrence Ivey left last Saturday for Akron, Ohio. Mr. and Mrs. V. W. Reeves were guests of Mr. and Mrs. George Crouse last week-end. Mrs. Izetta Rosendahl and son, Frederick, are spending some time with relatives at Furches. Mr., and Mrs. Wayne Waddell and sister, Miss Elma Waddell, spent last Monday in Galax, Va. Mrs. Jesse Andrews of Maryland, returned with Mrs. Wagoner for a few days visit with relatives in Sparta. Mr. Clinton Hudson, who will re ceive his degree from the University of North Carolina this summer, is spending some time with homefolks. Prof. W. R. Gentry, who has been critically ill+for several days, is re ported as still being in’ a serious condition. J Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hubbard and little son, Billie, have been spending a few days with Mr. Hubbard’s par ents at Moravian Falls. Mrs. C. W. Russell, Mrs. T. J. Carson, Mrs. Polk Doughton and Mrs. J. T. Inskeep attended the an nual missionary society meeting at Mount Airy last Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. I. A. Holder of Ga lax, Va., and Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Blevins and sons, Ray and Ralph, spent last week-end with Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Black, of Piney Creek. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Shepherd an nounce the arrival of a son, Robert Glenn. Jr., on May 31. Weight: ten pounds. Messrs. Lawrence Ivey and Arthur Wooten and Miss Clata Vaughan spent last. week with relatives in Sparta. . Saturday games are: Sparta vs. Grassy Creek at Sparta, and Laurel Springs vs. Scottville, at Laurel Springs. Mrs. W. P. Irwin is recovering from a painful Injury to her foot, which she received from a recent fall. Ralph Thomas Blevins returned home last Friday from a two weeks’ visit with his sister, Mrs. Boyd Hig gins, of Ennice. Mrs. Arzie Caudill and son, Keith, and Mrs. Mac M. Wagoner visited their sister, Mrs. W. T. Blev ins, this week. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Waddell and Mr. and Mrs. F. G. Richardson and little daughter, spent last Friday ev ening in Elkin. D. B. Stewart, Jr>, of Winston Salem, representing the State Farm Mutual Insurance Company, spent Wednesday night in town. Lonnie Higgins has returned to his home in Wyoming, after spend ing a few days here after the funer al of his wife. Mr. C. E. Jones returned home Sunday after a week’s visit in West Jefferson, Lansing and Virginia, with relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Sheppard and children and Mr. and Mrs. G. B. Sheppard visited Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Collins Sunday. Mrs. Albert Ward and little daughter, of Pennsylvania, are vis iting Mrs. Ward's parents,. Mr. and Mrs. S. O. Edwards. Mr. and Mrs. F. G. Richardson little daughter were guests of Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Jones last Saturday night. Thelma Osborne, Oder Joines of Sparta, and Mrs. C. B. Choate of Furches, left Tuesday for Boone, where they will attend summer school. Sparta ball team lost again Sat urday to Grassy Creek. Only six Sparta players were present. Three substitutes, who had not been play ing were used. Mrs. Tom King of Whitehead, left May 29 for Washington, where she will join her husband, who has been there for some time. They plan to make their future home in Washington. Mrs. Amos Wagoner and son. Ju nior, Misses Jimmy and Mildred Wagoner, and Imogene Miles, have returned home after visiting friends in Philadelphia and other northern points of interest. Mr. Odell Andrews fell from a scaffold on the Jay Hardin store building Wednesday morning and sustained lacerations on the head and several bruises on the arm and shoulder. Dr. and Mrs. C. A. Reeves and Dr. and Mrs. T. R. Burgiss and family attended a musical recital in Mocks ville last week in which Miss Alice Carr Choate, young daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Carr Choate, rendered sev eral numbers in voice. It is of much interest to the many friends of Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Col lins to know that the picture of their young son, John Bryan, has been selected by the State Department of Health, of North Carolina to be en tered in their exhibit at the World’s Fair in Chicago. Piney Creek Route One News A number of people from this community attended the* decoration at Shiloh last Sunday. Barbara and Kenneth Phipps spent last week with their grandmother, Mrs. a5 J. Ward. Mrs. Fred Osborne entertained a group of young people at her home Saturday night. Zermie Pollard has returned from a trip to Pennsylvania. Mrs. Luther Wiles died at her home near Furches, Friday night and was buried Sunday. Those from this community attending the funer al were: Mr. and Mrs. George Jones and family, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Van hoy, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Fender, Mrs. Dora Musgrove and children, and Reggie Vanhoy. Mrs. J. C. Osborne has been very sick this week. John D. Mitchell has returned from Chapel Hill to spend the sum mer with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Mitchell. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Key, Mrs. Tom Landreth and Mr. Frank Phipps spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Phipps. An unusually heavy rain last Tues day did considerable damage to the Piney Creek bridge and to the roads , of the vicinity. Wint Ward visited at Z. T. Ward’s near Cox’s Chapel, last Sunday.
